Oddworld Soulstorm is an action adventure game complete with crafting, scavenging, platforming, and sneaking. Similar to its predecessor, the game is a 2.5D side-scrolling platform game. Protagonist Abe returns in the game and his goal is to save his friends. The game features a new crafting system in which Abe can craft and customize different weapons. While the game is mostly linear, it features a massive train hub area where players can access new levels and areas.

Oddworld needs to bite the bullet and just turn this into an animated series. The story is so captivating, and I've been waiting almost two decades to see this "quintology" play out. I understand the passion for wanting to make video games, but this world they've built has become so grand and I'd love to see it fully realized.

That pilot slig is interesting to me, sligs don't often show kindness for others, let alone they're own kind, but when mullok made fun of the sligs that couldn't stop abe, pilot slig said that was harsh. also when mullok was feeling down about his yaht, the pilot tried to cheer him up. pilot slig feels like the "abe" of his species.

From what I remember when I would binge the wiki and videos on the species, Sligs were crippled at birth by the Glukkons, but also given legs by them, so as their pay back they act like body guards, servants, and other occupations for the Glukkons.

But from the little 3D I have studied, this is still remarkable.The scene at 1:08:00 alone, showing the suspension railway, is breathtaking for a game employing cartoonish, if gruesome, environments. This very old frachise started as a stylised platformer and still doesn't have the ambition to recreate 3D realism, but I think the generation gap was well translated with this 3D work. I cannot imagine what more they could have done with the limitations imposed by the style. What is it that you identify as early ps4 and what did you expect from a ps5 game, if I may ask?

@@degenesis21 First of all I have to say that i am by no means adducated in gaming rendering (i do make Architectural renderings but its not fair to comare ot to those) so you outrank me hahaha. No what i meant was taking in to account that is a next gen game console and to have flat facing fire like in 7:55 is kind of autrageous. I feel al lot of outdated ways of moddeling have been used is some place. Or the lack of bumpmap in the wood and the visible blocky inside of the hand. this place 37:40 when abe touches the wood. It looks like early lest gen or even late ps3. I feel like we have seen much better 3D in last gen consoles (let alone pc). Maybe the game had to be finished asap for launch with the new consoles.

This is a rare instance where the retcon is much better than the source. Exoddus was great but the behind the scenes story with the helper Mudokons makes much more sense and I believe Soulstorm to be canon now as it should be. It brought a lot more detail to the story that they couldn't have done in the 90s with the space limitation.

I like how they reworked on the plot of this game. In original all of this happened because trio of Mudokon Ghosts asked Abe to go to Necrum and save their bones. There Abe goes to Necrum because he needs to meet with Keeper(of history). And while in original Abe blows up Brewery by overloading boilers in remake he just mix Soulstorm cure into Brewery machines so that this new brew did not affect Mudokons, because in remake brew is actually security protocol that purpose to prevent any uprising or even escape from mudokons. Great work, probably one of the best game remake EVER. Also i like moment of epicness when Abe and Co train is rammed into Brewery while Abe is shooting lightings that annihilate sligs.

What I like about this oddworld game, is the good cuality of the cutscenes. I hope they make a tv series or a movie as they are saying, also I realized already that this game is showing us how powerful CEOs of every enterprise, corporation or other industries from all over the world are and maybe this is how they think that they will control us at some point. Not with drinks or electronic chips, but maybe with force labor and tracking devices. Or simply fired everyone and become automatic like robots or machines and obviously today is the reason why there is alot of people without jobs today. Rich CEOs, politicians and dictadors are the most powerful in the world this days.

I really want to like this, but there's something about the dialogue writing that is clearly trying but it... It just doesn't work. There's a lot of repetition and empty conversation that starts to grate, plus a hell of a lot of tell and then also show. They could do with a couple more voice actors, because it really feels like one or two guys performed all the voices. The bad guys referring to their own actions as "creepy", which just doesn't feel right to me either. Could've done with a 2nd draft to clear up some of that stuff. But on the flip side, the world is so fascinating and the art direction is genuinely gorgeous in all it's horror. While the words they are saying are kind of clunky, the facial expressions, animation and emotions are fantastic - they really sold it.

what begins is a long quest to save the rest of the mudokons, free them from the grip of the Gluckons, learn their past and the truth about their situation, all while surviving in a hostile world where they will be hunted as long as the enemy does not is not wiped out. Abe is content with their current hiding place because for him, they are free from Rapture Farm but was not thinking about what happens next. This is why the sorcerer sacrifices himself, otherwise he will not advance.

I've never played the game, I have no idea what the background info is, and so I am not part of any fandom of this game but I found a KZbin reel of this, and went to watch this video and yeah, I want a movie. This entire video was high quality, well made, and had fantastic characters outside of the antagonist's impractical body shape. I would go to the theaters to watch whatever this game is. Tl;Dr I have zero context or bias for the game and agree that based off the cutscenes this would have made a great film.

Abe is a perfect view of an everyman character who is tasked with toppling an empire with but a few friends and whatever Deus Ex Machina is helping him. In spite of the silly and goofy antics, his story is quite depressing. His heroisim is filled with sacrifice and especially pain, every gain is pain of a magnitude only few can imagine. Much of it would only be at the end of endurance and the edge of death. But in spite of it he gets back up and he keeps going in spite of the odds. Their saving grace is the guards are stupid and lazy and their overlords are not much better. In fact, part of that saving grace is they think it more plausible that one of their own would betray them rather than have a belief that a mere slave would be able to defy them. An amazing and lore rich story that I just love, so much world building.

The whole world of oddworld is anti-capitalist. The characters are all representing a member of the pyramid of the capitalism : The gluckons are the highest class. They are the one who represents the big bosses, the one who maintain their buisness and the one who profit the most. The slugs are the middle classe. They are representing the authority and the oppression tool used by the upper classes. The species of abe (I don't remember their name) are the lowest class. They are the gears of the factory, the one who are stuck in these polluted prison to make all of the dirty work for nothing but sweat and pain.

Their saving grace is the decay caused by corruption and paranoia. An empire filled to the brim like that is only a fit bad hits from collapsing. Abe and his friends are the ones tasked with toppling the empire

Right off the bat, when he says, "I dont know how to help you." I love that line and the entire scene from a writing perspective. Hate it from a sensitive viewer's perspective lol but still. It hits so hard and carries so much more meaning than just the fact of mortality. Its the internalized notion that he is supposed to be the hero, and the hero is supposed to be super strong, and brave, and exceptional and theyre supposed to save everyone.
