Thank you! Not sure why I couldn't easily find a video explaining the startup process. Was starting to think it was some kind of hidden trade for esoteric practitioners. Really helped!

I've been wanting to spice up my sketches for school and I figured that adding ink wash would make them more interesting, I just didn't know how to start. You made it very easy to understand and you shared a lot of useful information, thank you for making this video!

Great video Mark! I've been working with ink for a little while now but have recently begun experimenting with ink washes. Any guidance for how to achieve nice even tones when covering a larger area so it doesn't look splotchy? Add water to smooth it out?

Thanks Carl. That’s something I neglected to cover. A few things: wetting the paper slightly with a large brush will allow large washes to dry more evenly. Then use the largest brush you can, make sure that your surface is tilted slightly and work from the top down. After the wash is put down, do not tinker with it, other than to sop up the excess pooled up at the bottom with a dry brush or paper towel. The more you tinker and try to even things out, the more irregular the wash becomes. Paper also plays a part. Rougher paper will give you more even washes.

Is the difference in the final product drastic when compared to regular acrylic paint?

You can work with black acrylic paint in a similar way by diluting it with water. I suspect though, since the binder in acrylic paints is not designed for such an extreme dilution, that the results will be inferior.
