Any idea how to use Canva for the cover template for Ingramspark? I am so happy to find I am not the only tech-savvy person who has high frustration with Ingramspark.

Hi Maureen, So I've never used Canva to drop the cover art into the IngramSpark templates. I would suggest saving yourself the stress and working with a service like 100Covers : 100covers.com/?ref=49

1. Do I have to have my table of contents formatted or can I just copy and paste? 2. If I have an ISBN do I also need to have a barcode? 3. Do you have to register a business to upload your book to IS?

1. You can copy/paste but you may want to adjust the spacing a bit 2. You don't have to provide your own barcode. I have a whole video on whether you should purchase one or not. 3. No, you don't have to register as a business (I also have two videos on Author LLCs)

Hi again, M.K.! Do you have any thoughts on how opaque Ingram is in their sales reports? They don't show which retailers are buying your books, and as far as I know, there's no way to get them to provide that very useful info.

No, I don't like that they won't provide that information. I understand not getting information about the end user, but knowing how many orders came from Baker&Taylor or Walmart (etc.) would be nice. I believe when users upgrade to Ingram Publisher Services that information is provided. So they have the information, not sure if the decision to not share it is based on their resources. I would expect if they provided that info they would get even more customer service tickets.

@@1MKWilliams Thanks for the reply! Exactly what I was thinking - would like info about the retailer, not the end-customer. :) I haven't heard of their Upgraded Publisher service, I'll have to look into that.

I want to use Amazon for KIndle and use IS for kdp pre orders and expanded distribution. Once the book is out, I then want to cancel KDP with IS and use them only for expanded distribution. Can I do this.. OR is it best to use IS for everything and about a week after the book is out, then switch to Amazon for Kindle and KDP?

Hi Verseen, Here is what I do Ebook: KDP for Amazon, Google Play, and then Smashwords and Street Lib for wide distribution. Paperback and Hardcover: list with IS for preorder and wide distribution. Once the book is live I add it to KDP as well (usually a week after launch.) I hope this helps

IS says you need a different ISBN for each type of book you want to upload, eg., ebook, softcover, etc., . However, if I purchase my ISBN, can I use it for different formats on IS, i.e., ebook, softcover and hardcover?

Each format (ebook, paperback, hardcover, audiobook, etc.) requires a unique ISBN regardless of the platform you publish with. Best of luck!

@@1MKWilliams So if I buy my own ISBN. I can use one for ebook on Amazon and IS and the other for KDP on Amazon and IS as well?? The idea being when I transfer from IS to Amazon for KDP, I will not lose the traction/ranking on Amazon because of a new page.

About the barcode. According to IngramSpark's file creation guide: "The barcode centered on the back cover is the only item that can be repositioned/moved to fit with your cover design. Please do not resize the barcode." I've uploaded my cover template to Photoshop to begin building my book cover. First issue. The barcode is fixed in position and cannot be repositioned. Second issue. When I build design layers, the barcode disappears beneath them. I tried copying the barcode, but when I paste it onto the finished design, it totally resizes. How can this be resolved?

Hi Mark, In this case I would suggest placing the barcode on the original working file for the cover. In terms of the layers, you may just need to position the barcode as the top most layer so it doesn't get lost. Best of luck!

Hi Jessica, once you upload your book you will receive a digital proof to approve within 72 hours. After the proof is approved you can order a copy of your book.

Does Ingram Sparks send u reports on how your book is doing?

IngramSpark will send a report each month. They have a small dashboard of sales from the past 30 days when you log in, however they can only report on sales when a retailer provides that information so it is not always up to date.
