M0TTL - Just bought the 3185 from Martin Lynch this week..... Wow what a radio this is... The s-dx button is a delight on the ear with no loss on audio quality like some noise reduction systems..Weaker stations actually sound local. Big thumbs up and a big smile on my face with this radio.

Very nicely demonstrated Dave. A really clear and easy to follow video.

Thank you very much Fred. All of us at ML&S enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

I purchased the FTM-150 and I'm extremely pleased with it, unfortunately everyone is videoing best case scenario with the noise cancelling and this doesn't give a true performance of how it actually works. My findings are strong signals yes it will work but defeats the object if the signal is strong readable anyway, now with weaker signals I find there is a threshold and that threshold is it will totally clean up a crackling signal to fully readable, lower than that it sometimes destroys a weak hard to copy signal. My only other misunderstanding part is why didn't they put pre amp and noise cancelling on two separate buttons this would allow further tuning of the noise cancelling. That said I am highly delighted with my radio, for me it's an updated version of the FTM-8800 but on steroids, I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you purchase one, I just wanted you to be aware that the noise cancelling is good but has limitations G1YPQ

Looking fwd to that 85W big boy. Amazed that the SDX button made as much difference as it did even on "good" signals!

I have just bought the FTM500 from ML&S which also has the S-DX button. All it seems to do on mine is increase the displayed signal strength by 2 S points. It seems to make no difference at all to the received audio. I’ll need to dig in to the manual to see if there are some other settings I need to look at. The difference it makes on the videos I’ve watched on these much cheaper radios is impressive.

On the FTM500 it is more like a pre-amp. I have a feeling we will see this button morph even further in future.
@JackCumming1Ай бұрын
@@wonderingworld119 Indeed - although on mine it makes absolutely no difference to the sound at all, in volume or clarity. I have an external BHI box which does all the DSP filtering and EQing, so I don't really need it in the radio. However, the FTM500 is about 3 to 4 S points better on receive than the 2980 it replaced in my shack, so I'm not too worried.
@iandobson8846Ай бұрын
Yeah, the S-DX button on the FTM-500 doesn't appear to do much really. It's a shame it's not the same DSP effect that these two new radios have.

Thanks for the video. That SDX button certainly does a great job on killing the background hiss.

Does this mean that these 3 radios come with the SPU-1 module preinstalled at no extra cost? It wasn't clear in the previous information from Yaesu.
@KarlHobson16 күн бұрын
Yes they come pre installed de G1YPQ

If you hadn't told me I'd have thought the ftim 3165 was the ftm 7250 maybe no noise reduction but 2 and 70 plus c4fm and wires x no longer made unfortunately

Volmet on 145.625Mhz which might be a repeater output in that area!?
@PaulTaylor1Ай бұрын
I guess that's why they try to coordinate the frequencies of the repeaters. I'm surprised though - isn't amateur radio the primary user of the 2m band?
@krishnanrs6011Ай бұрын
@PaulTaylor1 yup, unless someone piped it on to 2m. Anyone from that area know?

Don't like the SDX, it cuts out noise but yoou can hear the digitising artefacts, it sounds like a robot.
@VTX-LiveАй бұрын
Supposedly you can use the super dx function without the ASP module installed which should still improve sensitivity without the ASP module doing the cringy noise canceling.
