Let me start with the trailer for Game 7: "Do you remember the year? That season the Cubs, the Indians won the World Series? You don't do you? But this year one city will live it. You need not remind the faithful in Chicago, in Cleveland dreams dont always come true. This year, they will. For those men we call ball players. For those fans in the stands. For those in Cleveland. In Chicago. In Illinois. In Ohio. The Midwest, the Nation and the World. With one win, one city will experience the year it finally happens. As the hopes of generations come down to one game." I'll say it again. Don't let anybody tell you that baseball is a boring sport EVER again. If you're a fan of baseball in general it's not hard to see why this is the #1 game of the 21st century at least for now. First ever leadoff home run in a World Series Game 7. David Ross taking Andrew Miller deep in his last game. Rajai Davis with his highlight bomb to tie the game, watching that ball sail into your TV with an amazing camera shot. And of course it had to go to extra innings. This game crystallizes baseball in its purest form. It was a test of wills, of who wanted it more. This was an incredible game to watch from the first pitch to the last out.

After a hellish Little League year in which the coaching staff tore the love of the game out of every kid and then the Bartman game, my heart broke and I swore off baseball forever. I didn't watch a single pitch since. I swore I'd only watch a game if the Cubs could win the World Series. I spent this entire post season not giving a single care. Nothing matters unless we win. Then it all came down to a game 7. I sat down and watched this game, and it immediately brought me back to a 10 year old boy completely enraptured by baseball. What a game.

That series was weird as far as rooting interests go, because I really wanted the Cubs to end the drought, but my girlfriend's whole family are Indians fans. I spent Game 7 reacting one way with my family and the exact opposite with her! Great series all the way around. Also, to those nagging on the Indians for blowing a 3-1 lead and it's what Cleveland deserved after trolling the Warriors, those two are apples to oranges. Cleveland, in all honesty, weren't expected to be there at all with the injuries they had going into the postseason and the team that came back from that 3-1 series deficit (the Cubs) had the best record in the majors that year. The Warriors on the other hand...they had the best regular season record ever and blew the 3-1 lead.

As a Cubs fan, this was an excruciatingly amazing experience. For one, I really like the Indians as well, so I was wishing that it was any other fanbase than them. Second, poor pitcher management. I was upset when they pulled Hendricks, that led immediately to 2 runs, and then again when they pulled Lester, led to 3 runs. By now, it's well known that those moves were mistakes. When Rajai hit that homerun, I can't describe it. I had a feeling as soon as Chapman came in that something terrible was gonna happen, and then 2 batters in we had a tie game. My heart almost stopped when Kipnis hit that foul ball in the 9th, but luckily in retrospect it was nowhere near. The rain delay really was what sealed it for us; let the team meet, reset, get a solid mindset. If that didn't happen, The Cleveland Indians would be the 2016 World Series Champions, all because Addison Russell couldn't handle a tough hop ground ball with 2 outs in the 8th. Now then, we don't live in that world, and my team won the 2016 World Series officially at 12:45AM Eastern Time on November 3rd, 2016 - My birthday. I got to watch it with my parents. I got the one thing I wanted for my birthday. This game is both terrible and amazing at the same time. BUT! The only thing I hope is that the Indians fanbase gets to experience the same elation as I did sometime soon. They deserve it for sure. PS: I just binge-watched all of these from 1-10, and I loved them all. The only game I woulda switched out was game 7 of the ALCS 2003 for game 4 of the 2004 ALCS. But, I can forgive that since you included game 7 of the 2001 WS. I appreciate the balance considered in the list. It was a great series for sure, and you deserve all the support you've received. Keep it up. Subbed.

I was a senior in high school during this game and I remember me and probably a dozen of my friends packed into a basement watching it on the T.V... We're from Chicago so when they won, all hell broke loose. None of us went to school the next day we were all too happy and too tired! Haha. The parade was absolutely nuts though Chicago was packed with people, you couldn't even walk around without bumping into people! One of the greatest moments of my life when they won.

Cubs fan my entire life and I was so anxious during this game I thought I was going to have a panic attack. It’s definitely the best baseball game I’ve ever watched. Incredible drama.

Coming from an Indians fan, I'm watching this again and my stomach just hurts watching it through. Like this game crushed the souls of all Indians fans, then the 2017 ALDS basically took our already crushed souls and ran them over with a dumptruck. Dought the Indians will ever recover from that game 7.

LilBoi Cajun coming from a Cubs fan you guys still got a kick-ass team, I have no doubts about the Indians ability to make it deep in the playoffs.

As a Cleveland sports fan, this my sports life story. They get close enough to win it all just to break your heart. The NBA finals in 2016 was our one big win in recent history but I have a feeling thats it for a while.

it is a shame you left out Almora tagging up from first on Bryant's fly ball in the 10th. The game might have played out very differently if he was stuck at first.

Rajai’s home run gives me the chills. Sucks that the tribe couldn’t pull out the dub but you gotta appreciate how awesome that moment was

We beat you fair and square but you put up the fight of your lives. What an intense game, that's what makes baseball so fun to watch.

i think in the pure game it was but the way the cubs came back from being down 3-1 in the series. And they hadn’t won the world series in like 108 years

I feel if #2 was a game 7, then I agree. Being game 7 puts this one slightly above

There was more excitement within the game itself, but OP has been clear the whole time that that's just one criterion. Nothing comes close to what was at stake in 2016 for these teams.

They're both great, but given the circumstances I would give the Cubs/Indians the #1 spot still. The Astros/Dodgers was exciting, fun to watch, everyone loves a walk off. The Cubs/Indians was stressful, tense, impossible to stop watching, and maybe most importantly - Game 7 They also both had their problems. The pitching was horrible in the Astros/Dodgers game. Some pretty bad fielding in the first half gave the Dodgers a couple runs that should of never happened. Joe Maddon was making a lot of panicked decisions that may or may not have lead to the Indians almost winning the game.

I remember watching this and thinking how deserving both teams were to win, i was happy for the cubs for ending that drought but i felt bad for cleavland making it to game 7 and loosing, im a yankees fan but that night i was a cubs fan for the night! Great game!

I’ll tell you what, we’ve had some fantastic World Series games the past few years. 2017 Game 5 2016 Game 7 2015 Games 1 & 5 2014 Game 7

As a Red Sox fan I was rooting for the Cubs because we all know what it’s like to wait generations for our team to win. I could feel the collective gasp when Davis tied it in the HR. It was a hell of a game.

Coming back to the highlights of this game, and it was such a roller coaster of emotions...and I didn't have a horse in the race at all! Honestly feels cruel that a World Series was played between the two teams with the longest droughts! I watched Game 7 with my family, which happened to be hours after my grandpa's funeral, so being able to watch it with family down in North Carolina that I hadn't seen for some time was nice. My family always cheered for the NL team, and I typically followed along in that rooting interest. However, I had just started dating my now fiancée, who's from the Cleveland area. So the whole series, I was saying one thing to my family and another to my fiancée regarding what was going on 😂 I'll never forget how many times I conveyed emotions of one kind at some moments to one party then the complete opposite to the other, especially on the Davis home run. Definitely a legendary game, and we'll be hard pressed to ever get such a transcendent game again in our lifetimes

Cub fan here. I remember when Davis’ home run left the park, I collapsed in agony and screamed. It was that much of a gut-punch.

This is a good pick for #1. Personally I would put the 2004 ALCS game 4 in at #1 with the 2001 game 7 a close second.
