The World Series is approaching, and no team from Texas will be taking the mound. FOX 7's Rudy Koski spoke with a group from Austin pushing to get the capitol city a MLB team.

As a Houston sports fan, I'm all for Austin/San Antonio getting an MLB, and even an NFL franchise. I think it would be awesome! The area is certainly big enough to support it.

Austin and San Antonio needs to get together and make a sports commission to attract NFL MLB NHL Austin doesn't have the population nor does San Antonio together they have the population

Austin is the #11 most populous city in the US, ahead of San Fran and Denver

@@cz88888And San Antonio is #7, so I think it could work, especially if they put the stadiums in San Marcos perhaps, then it’d be neutral between San Antonio and Austin.

San Antonio city council doesnt want to cooperate with Austin at all. I dont support it either. While I would like major sports in San Antonio, I would rather SA have its own and not have its identity ties in with Austin. The two cities are like night and day. Austin isnt as culturally involved like San Antonio. SA has a much older crowd than the college town Austin.

I from Nashville and we love Austin. I think Nashville is definitely getting a team and Austin should definitely get a team. They are like sister cities.

no disrespect to Austin, but I think it will be Nashville and SLC getting the expansion teams, unless the Las Vegas deal falls apart. then it will be a whole new ballgame😆

It needs to be a joint Austin/San Antonio team with a world class dome stadium between New Braunfels and San Marcos. This way we could host other big time events like a CFP Title Game. We absolutely have the population to support another pro team

Downtown Dallas to Downtown Ft Worth is approximately 30 miles from each other. This is how they are able to support 2 pro teams in the metroplex. (Cowboys and Rangers) Sab Antonio and Austin are almost triple that milage.. It will never work as a joint collaboration. Austin needs their own stuff and San Antonio needs its own stuff. I can understand why Austin wants to be in the pro spotlight these days. A growing city, more money, and denser population. A joint pro sports task team between Austin and San Antonio is all fantasy and will never happen, especially because San Antonio city council doesnt want to collaborate with Austin at all, which I support.

Why? There were rumors not too long ago Spurs were looking into leaving for Austin. The household median income is much higher in Austin. That’s literally why the investment group is trying to get an expansion team here 😊

Forget MLB in Austin. We need to get a hockey team back in Houston. AHL preferred, but even the ECHL would be better than what we have which is nothing, thanks to Les Alexander.

There’s no way in hell the MLB is going to expand to Austin, Texas MLB would go to Nashville, Charlotte, Salt Lake City, or Portland. Any day before expanding to a third team in Texas

The issue is can they get taxpayers to foot the bill to build the owner a free stadium? The politicians want taxpayers to give billionaire owners and millionaire players a free home. Just say no.

Considering that Austin and San Antonio are like 70ish miles apart, you could elevate your chances for an MLB Expansion Team to represent the fanbases for both cities. Considering this aspect as well, we could find a location between the two Metropolitan areas to situate the stadium as well to facilitate the convenience here. If you look at the existing use cases with the San Antonio Spurs NBA Team and Austin FC MLS Teams, you could make an argument that both teams are eliciting fans from both these cities. Let MLB eat a piece of that pie as well and then pave the way for an NFL potential team to expand there too. For this latter point, if Jerry Jones opposes it, don't listen to him!

Austin's newspaper is the American-Statesman, commonly called the Statesman. The Austin Senators were a minor-league team years ago.

Cali has 3 mlb teams , 2 in the same city, plus all the big college teams, so why can’t Texas have the same ??

California has 4 teams after Oakland moves to Las Vegas with the Padres, Dodgers, Angels, and Giants. However, the difference is the size of the greater Los Angeles area is over 12M, which is nearly double the size of Houston. They can support two teams. Also, MLB has no salary cap and a large portion of a team's revenue is from TV contracts. The Astros and Rangers will fight like hell to prevent a 3rd team in Texas, which would reduce some of their territorial TV money.

I don't think these guys understand territorial media rights. It would not be a 28-2 vote, instead a lengthy and costly court battle..... 3 minor league teams? No. There's four plus your spring training facility which runs year round. Not to mention your training facilities in the DR. Publicly funded stadiums, especially in a city like Austin, won't be quite that easy to accomplish either. Also UT is pro sports.

It's a No Brainer. Just ask Elon Musk or Michael Dell to be your owner. Firstly, go get the AZ Diamondbacks from the NL West. You don't have to change anything. They already have the same Western Diamondback Snake, and you already have the "A" in the name. If you can't get the Diamondbacks for some strange reason, then ask those 2 guys I mentioned before on investing in an expansion team. Being in the NL already makes things uniquely different for ATX. Let's Go!!.. From this SA Native, lives in Pasadena, TX. Lifelong Astros, ChiSox, & A's fan.

These guys in Austin are double a people, and I’m being kind, trying to play major league ball. Nashville, Salt Lake City, are two teams that have ownership, and money set aside for a team. If you pull a or play like those guys are, have some meat on the bone. They don’t.

I've always wondered why San Antonio and Austin only have one team between them. (Yeah there's Austin FC but idk how many people follow MLS that closely.) As a Rangers fan I wouldn't mind another Texas team. Carolina would be cool too. Not a big fan of Nashville though for some reason.

No! Just be happy the MLS allowed a team here. No F’n way the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL will put a team here. UT won’t allow it. Too close to Houston and Dallas which are larger markets. Maybe you might get WNBA and or NWSL but that all Austin can ever hope for.
