This video is historical, not current, and completely lacks the past year's performance except for a brief, vague reference at one point. Virtually all the video clips are from his play in Japan and then hs Angels career. While describing the highlights of his 2021 season, we're shown photos and video of him when he was a teenager and his play with the Fighters in Japan. It also uses a digital voiceover and graphics that are laughably off-base. (Ohtani had a batting average of "285" in his first season--no period in there as in customary. And phrases like "this would go without question" suggest it's coming from an AI composition.) I'm an Ohtani fan but have to cringe at some of the juvenile gushing and cheesiness of this video.

He's only lucky.. if he had grown up here in the US.. after HS ball he WOULD have been forced to give up either his time on the bump or hitting. Everyone celebrates him but the reality is.. there have been many that entered either the low A-Ball ranks or NCAA and those levels made the one dimentional. It was different in Ruths era because until the 70's, pitchers still swung a bat at all levels.. today, teams don't even want them to touch them. (I personally think we've lost something by the DH rule.). I still consider Ruth better because unlike Shohei... Ruth was one of the top 5 pitchers in all of baseball (the best in the AL.. )and when he started in RF he was hitting 60 bombs on fields that had coors field dimentions (without the altitude) and entire teams were not hitting 60... I've not yet seen shohei out homer any teams nor be a top pitcher... he's been good.. but not in the cy young debate good. Still, there are many good young players that enter pro-ball as 2 way players. rick Ankiel was one... but the powers that be don't want that. If we removed the DH rule, that would clearly slow that practice.. but it happens OFTEN.
