I think they called him Felix because in the original anime Felix was cat noir but in the show they chose Adrien as Felix and what not. Also before they had Felix’s story fully written (in the actual show) when he was first debuted in the series episode “Felix” it was more of a reference.

Amma be honest the office au is now (in my terms) cannon but thats only because the script is well written, even better so than the original series and the character development is just better in everyway. Plus there was an anime that got cancelled and the ship there was also felix x marinette so if you think about it that was the original ship and universe however not many people know about the anime
