This is the unfortunate truth. Anyone who doubts it need only look around. Almost all video content for this game is centered around Diamond Dynasty. Look at discussions online and it’s almost always about Diamond Dynasty. A very small percentage of players play anything but DD anymore. It’s pretty much the case with sports games across the board.

My first The Show game was 21 and I was a casual, super casual MLB fan. The series made me reinvest back into the league and my Mets. I've retired three players through 21 and 22 Road to the Show mode. But, 23 was painfully boring and I just spend all that time in DD. Actually go back to more detail in RTTS. I didn't know all that stuff about going to college from the old games. Give us a "drama" menu. I wanna complain about my coach. I wanna make trouble in the media. Dammit, I wanna be Anthony Rendon! Realistic regression would make the stats something you have to manage instead of every player becoming a god tier player at 32 and never retiring until like 50 years old. Better news menus with "Race to MVP" type stuff. NBA 2K11's MyCareer is better than RTTS.

Honestly what keeps me from playing franchise mode (which historically has always been my favorite) is the absolutely busted trade/free agent logic, its so easy to trade for and sign pretty much anyone you want and players on other teams will get signed for contracts that make ZERO sense (Pete Alonso signed for 4 years 28 million in a franchise i had this year) it completely breaks my emersion and frustrates me to no end

Some of us don't have the time to grind every season. Let us use all of our cards throughout the year to keep us engaged. Make it a battlepass at the very least of some sort. I would be playing way more but I turn on my console and realize the only time I have to put into the game is grinding for cards I won't have much time to use as they will expire by that point.

Over the last 4-7 years they’ve stripped out all of the little details that made it the king of MLB video games when there was actual competition in order to put 99% of their time and resources into diamond dynasty. There’s no reason for them to care about anything else. Every sports game is basically the same business model now and the offline players are ignored

SDS is devoting VAST resources to Storylines…I know that’s hard to believe, but they built a simulated NYC subway car, and it is clear from several streams they have multiple employees that do nothing BUT Storylines. Pretty much everyone agrees they are cool but not particularly important to serious players. However, you know who LOVES Storylines? major site game reviewers who only play the game a few hours.

Its literally a mode of moments. And SDS was so lazy they have used some of the Storyline moments in Diamond Dynasty Programs as moments. So lazy that they couldn't even change the fail moment screen. Because if you didn't beat the moment it would ask if you wanted to skip to the next Chapter.

They don’t have any viable competition in the baseball video game business. They aren’t gonna allocate resources when they are making money anyway. That’s also why they went all-in on selling packs. They do it because they can. We need to stop calling a current generation of devices “next gen” when they have been in operation for years.

Here's the thing: there are people who spend $1,000s each year on DD. SDS won't focus much on other game modes when DD has people spending so much on DD that it's as if they're buying the game 30 times over. Just so they can play with five different versions of Mark Vientos and Cal Raleigh (while we STILL wait for a decent Mickey Mantle, Fergie Jenkins, and Stan Musial card, not to mention the ton of other legends they've ignored this year). I wouldn't be surprised if they increased that 10% tax to somewhere closer to 50% (or remove the community element of the marketplace entirely) in an attempt to eliminate flipping and encourage people to purchase more stubs (it'll fail though).

I also miss having the pitcher hit. Ik the league changed it but I think it was a lot more fun interesting to have your pitcher. Hit say it’s the 5th inning it’s a tied game with a runner on 2nd and 2 outs with your pitcher up to bat now you have to make the decision to either keep them in or take them out for a pitch hitter. Also with the new change I don’t use the bench whatsoever

The show creators complaining about server issues (and the amount of them we see with MLB 24) just shows how ignorant they are with the fan base. They’ve had years to upgrade their backend infrastructure, and it clearly shows they spent the bare minimum creating any sort of updated environment. If 25 doesn’t contain a full re-haul, with added modes and features, then I’m done spending any sort of money on this game.

Biggest thing for me is them getting rid of Y2Y saves, when you spend hours upon hours creating retro rosters and you have to start over when the new game drops sucks. If they would have kept y2y (roster carry overs) the amount of retro rosters wed have would be shocking heck id probably have 30 seasons done by now. Even if caps changes when you transfer over you may have to change faces a little or edit in new equipment that beats starting over. Rather take a week editing playèrs from carry over than a whole summer starting over.

When it comes to RTTS either give us more to do in story scenerios that arent just prompts for temporary boosts or the ocasional moment to ask to be traded or just give us a striaght forward career mode and any options are just in a menu rather than making us sit throigh the same 5 cutscenes every time.

It'd be cool if MLB the Show did something like Power Pros with "Live Scenario" mode where you can play Scenarios made by them of the MLB games that happened the day before or after or you could play online scenarios by others. The ones made my team is where you could earn stubs and stuff.

Actually fix the game once dropped. They did nothing to fix any gameplay this year (no they did not fix foul balls). Pinpoint pitching is supposed to be an advantage if you can figure it out yet pitches on the black are called balls 90% of the time even though they are strikes and at the same time swinging at a ball way out of the zone is rewarded over and over with harder hit balls than hitting a ball in the zone. But hey at least they "fixed" the Captain "glitch" by golly game is so much better now that we can't start games with the captain on the bench. (yes I know if you had a lineup set already you still can). In the end the whole team is uncreative, not great at coding the game, and unable to either see or fix any issues, or IMO don't see a reason as they already got our money.

Played a lot of the Show 21-24. 23 i played the most overall. I played 24 all through season one but i just lost any motivation to grind in season two. Once College Football and 2K came out and were fun that was basically it for me. Especially with the collection aspect being so ingrained through the Show it feels impossible to catch up without hours upon hours of offline grinding.

And you didn't even touch on the dwindling number of legends that are in the game, but have been "discontinued". Jimmie Foxx, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, they brought back Honus for ONE card, Babe as a collection reward, Cy Young for an Out-of-Position appearance, Hershiser, Dave Winfield, Fred McGriff, John Olerud, Yogi Berra, we got a lot of Jeter's teammates in his Storylines collection, but we couldn't get a Pee Wee Reese card with Jackie's Dodgers card?, Reggie Jackson, Mike Hampton, Walter Johnson, Kirk Gibson... plus we are losing guys who should be in the game after they retire... I know the rumblings and grumblings about guys refusing to allow their likenesses to be used after they retire or signing exclusivity contracts with other sports or games, so we lose out on guys like Ichiro, Nomo, both Bobby and Barry Bonds, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, and a few of the other greats. Then we have the recent guys that just disappear: Curt Schilling, Roger Clemens, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Vince Coleman, Otis Nixon, Carlos Beltran, the Alomar brothers, the Molina brothers, Albert Pujols, Eric Karros and Rex Hudler were announcers with no cards, "Singy" has no card, but we got a Plesac card a few years back, but he's gone, I see a lot of milestone cards for guys like Nolan Ryan, Lou Brock, Bert Blyleven, but where is Ubaldo Jimenez's no-hitter card? Fernando Valenzuela and Dave Stewart's no-hitter cards? Steve Carlton's strike-outs card? And now that the man is dead and the lifetime ban has been served, can we get ONE, just ONE Pete Rose milestone card for hits? Even if it's only to end the year this year? Something else I'd like to see: Instead of using "Captains" cards, which only apply to players of one team or one type of player, maybe we can get Manager's boosts. Something else to boost your team that doesn't take up a roster spot. If stat-tracking companies can make ratings for ballparks that are based off of the stats of the players who play(ed) there, what if these managers' boosts were based on the stats of the players who played under them? Figure out the SB% of the players under Tony LaRussa or Whitey Herzog based on the averages of the other managers in the league and give managers bonuses or "nerfs" based on how much above or below average they were. If Tommy Lasorda's pitchers struck out more batters/9 innings than any other manager, maybe Lasorda's card gives your team +20 K/9, but if they give up slightly more than average HR/9, he takes away HR/9 by a -5 factor to every pitcher at the same time... more power, but less speed, worse fielding, but more stamina to pitchers...etc. When people choose their favorite team, let them choose their favorite manager or just give them a random manager in the start-up pack they get to start the first season. If they insist on this Seasons/Sets format, maybe you can start everyone with Set 1 managers, put them in packs as unlockables like they used to do for ballparks. Make your first one non-sellable so that you always have one and make the manager card mandatory, but changeable (even "core") in every mode, including BR. If they ever played the game, make them usable as players as well, but limit the bonuses they give to their teams to when they are used as managers. Mike Scioscia managing while Tom Lasorda is in the bullpen and Dusty Baker is in the outfield firing to Joe Torre, relaying to Joe Girardi, trying to cut down Lou Pinella at home might turn into something fun. Stadium Creator needs more flexibility with dimensions, with limits being Polo Grounds' shorter corners and slightly deeper than Coors' corners, with relative limits on the gaps (deepest being Polo Grounds, but shallowest being relative to the shorter corner dimensions (325 or 350 perhaps), and center field being anywhere from 375 to the Polo Grounds (483, or whatever it has been determined to be). Different colors available, including the clear plexiglass of Candlestick Park, advertisement signs that can be attached to the outfield walls, walls that can be freely altered within reason (3' like Dodger Stadium and Anaheim, to 50' max) without causing the stadium to be rendered unusable in Diamond Dynasty. We could also use modern vehicles, like cars, trucks, vans, school buses, a police car, fire truck, ambulance, and taxis. Imagine building a stadium in NYC and not having a single taxi, patrol car, or limousine to add to the streets outside the ballpark. Standing room fans with era-appropriate attire. Vendors for the concession stands so that your crowd duo working the bar doesn't randomize to two kids at their first game ever. Road pieces that line up with bridge lanes and parking garage entrances and parking lot aisles. Vendors who walk the bleachers and stands, randomly calling out items they sell, maybe with a price... "pass this down to the lady, please". "Thank you, sir". Maybe "Last Call!" in the top of the 8th inning. They don't have to reference beer or anything, just yelling out "Last Call". Birds that can be perched on objects, fly a path that doesn't interfere with the playing field, then comes back. Thunderstorms with lightning in the distance when "rain" is selected as the weather, by the player or the CPU. Canoes that can be selected to hold a person or two kneeling. Strikeout counting scoreboards that accurately count and track the number of Ks that the pitcher currently on the mound had racked up that game. Balls that hit the first or third base bags are always fair, no matter which way they bounce. Pitchers that get injured by balls hit 90MPH+ off their forehead, knees, groin, or pitching arm/hand, or they take a significant deduction in certain stats, like control, durability, stamina, running speed, or arm strength/arm accuracy or pitch speed depending on where they were hit and the speed that the ball was traveling; announce the injury, resulting deduction if he stays in, or bring in a reliever automatically at "warm", regardless of the number of batters already faced. Teams that choose to relocate in RTTS or franchise can lead to realignment and always lead to forced choosing of a new (created)stadium that was designated to be in that new home city. Walls on props can change to the style of wall textures on the outfield or infield walls... should I go on?

Great video, you were critical but in a fair way and also admitted The Show still has a lot of good things going for it. As I primarily play Road to the Show, I really miss a lot about RTTS pre-Show 18, and especially since the awful changed in 21. I don't really care much for a storyline to it. I miss being able to go to the agent anytime. I miss that I actually got played at different positions early in my career, that I could control my training. I miss year-to-year saves, which was enough to get me to buy the game every year for several years. Lack of that means, without some major improvements next year, I'm probably skipping it, certainly at least until it goes on a big sale. The idea for sponsorships for new equipment is a great one. I never really liked that everything came from the stubs. That was an issue even before the entire game started revolving around Diamond Dynasty.

I'll take 2K greed for what 2K brought to the table when they made ⚾️. They got A LOT right. Their career mode was fun. Arcadey, but fun. EA had Triple Play/MVP, which was great!

When this game first came to Xbox it was the first time I played it and instantly loved it! I remember complaining about there being so much to do, so many programs and so much to keep up with ( now I wish I didn’t complain lol) , the one thing me and my friends did , especially because of cross play was create a custom league and took our diamonds dynasty card and created teams and made a season and post season, I wish they did updates to that, cause at the end of the day, some of us want to play randoms , some of us want to play against friends , I think custom leagues needs a push and revamp . It’s not the answer to save the game , but it’s one of the steps that can help

I got the game when it was free for PS plus. So far this season I’ve only played BR. Assembled a decent team for DD but have only played casual. Barrier to entry is definitely still the paywall and grinding for a decent NMS DD team gets old. Same thing happened with 23, but it got kind of fun at the end of its life because all sets were available now. Like it’s meant to attract a last surge of players before it dies and they buy next year’s version

RTTS features that have been removed for no apparent reason: Going back to the showcase for a second year so that you can advance your age (I hate how you start in double A at age 18. Shows a lack of baseball knowledge by the devs) Pre game batting practice (why isn’t there a daily routine? This mode was sold as “live the life of a player!!” But do they think players show up each day and just play?) There should be activities that you do every day that has pros and cons. Being able to switch positions through your agent The progression system has sucked since 2018, bring back experience points Give us SOMETHING to do in the offseason other than aim to the next season Completely revamp the equipment system, and let us sign deals and upgrade equipment instead of being locked into bronze, silver, gold, diamond. There’s so much more they could do with this mode if they cared

As a Xbox user, I waited over a decade for baseball to come on Xbox. MLB the Show 21 was a great time , I grinded hard in that game, to learn mechanics, and game modes. I truly had fun on ‘21 and ‘22. Haven’t had a chance to really play’24 because I’ve been busy but I hope they can keep improving the game somehow. To me they need to work on RTTS and franchise more than anything. RTTS needs more excitement and interaction. Different storylines each year depicting your players stats and achievements.

DD is fun when playing against someone who doesn't care if they win or lose. Gameplay & animations "improve" every year but franchise more in depth 14 years ago. Why the F r fielders pitchers & pitchers batters n DD? Mike Trout a SO artist on the mound. Did he pitch in HS or are the developers A Holes who just make insane cards? WWE games have same issue. Gameplay funner in 2011 with hardcore matches. New games more concerned with graphics.

Adding a TON more legends and retired players into the game is 1A for me. It needs to happen. That opens the door for even seasons actually working, since you will have variety the entire year (out of position? really? lol). Online franchise and the ability to import rosters between titles each year. That's it.

MLB now is essentially where Madden was on the PS3/PS4… no new features and stale offline modes including stripping things from franchise. Been screaming for years that the game is stale and even now Xbox players are realizing the game is essentially 21 with some minor graphics bumps. Events being lazy is awful too. Absolutely no creativity.

also, co-op doesn’t save any stats that happen in co-op. i feel like if there were co-op stats it would make it more enjoyable especially if you play it often with a friend

the thing i hate the most is that they removed permanent player lock from franchise. i prefer a more realistic progression instead of the perk system from RTTS but you have to player lock every game which means injuries and days off don’t work. every other sports game has this so i don’t know why they removed it

I wish there was a way to only player other TV users. I like playing head to head however I’m an old sob and I’m not sitting at a desk on a monitor to play video games. I love competing but the advantage is crazy its monitors

I used to love road to the show, but developers haven’t carded about it in about 8 years. With NCAA coming out this year, this is the first year. I haven’t bought MLB the show since the PlayStation two days.

If we are going to have co-op. Let’s have an online franchise, where you can play with friends and CpU controlled teams. I’d think since franchise hasn’t changed in 10 years, integrating it for co-op wouldn’t be a stretch

I'll give you my humble opinion, they apparently put a lot of "effort" into Diamond Dynasty, which I assume makes them a lot of money, meanwhile they neglected great game modes like Franchise and RTTS. We play each year so obviously we were gonna notice this, but I guess we are being too hopeful and we keep getting fooled

I'm not a franchise player but just DD. I'M disappointed in the lack of programs these partial XP paths, no conquest programs like they had last year now it's mostly get so many hits or xbh or hrs. Rather then a conquest program. Last year post season players were better. At least they started then off as a 97. And not made a 97ovr and called it a 99. Hunter Brown for instance, 99? With 60hr per 9 and 79ctrl. Or Ibanez having Max power and contact one side but like 70/55 on the other come on. That shouldn't be a 99. They should have done it like last year

With College Football 25 doing so well, I hope they make a College Baseball game in the near future, and for it to be done well. SDS and MLB The Show basically has no competition, and having a good alternative might get them off their butts and improve the game, re-implement features like online franchise, put much more effort into offline modes, and improve DD.

RTTS was so fun to me this year and then I finally made the majors and the debut was against the dodgers and ohtani glasnow yama...fine. The next series was the Rays however and the roster was so ragtag I was appalled. They had traded for Taylor Ward, Amed Rosario, Ethan Salas amongst others. The trades they make in RTTS absolutely ruin any semblance of realism i'm trying to see. Even the teams my drafting team made (M's) was insane, the players they stick in the minors is also insane I had dylan moore and randy on my AA team for at least a month. Its like they don't even try and the lack of attention to detail is what drives me heartbreaking because I've poured years of my life into this game and this company. I've purchased every MLB the show going back to the granddaddy of them all, they've gotten significantly worse as the last two console generations has gone on.

I played the game when season 3 began a few weeks ago. Earned 260K XP. Didn't touch the until 2 days ago and now I have finished the xp path with 6 days to spare. They've made things too easy

New subscribers here, Orioles fan since 1979, and MLB THE SHOW enthusiastic gamer since 2007. As a Franchise Mode player almost solely, I could fill a book with what San Diego Studio has removed from Franchise. They use the excuse "progress," and that is an arbitrary word, especially with these indolent game designers and developers. The monet they made off of Franchise Mode opened the door for expansion, but sadly Ramon and friends care about the players as much as they do about the QUALITY of the game, but pack it full of other modes, and continue to remove (do not tell you either) aspec 5:45 aspects of Offline Franchise. My take, and it will not be popular: SDS found a cash cow in Diamond Dynasty, and care about nothing but that. I get it, revenues and profits, but screwing a large part of the fan base who are invested in playing modes OTHER than DD. Sadly many of these videos have surfaced, but I guess SDS media team is on Only Fans, after all, the only mode they give a **** about is Diamond Dynasty. Cash Cow Ahoooooo!!

I like your Fortnite-type development cycle idea. My dream has always been for sports games to use the COD development cycle. With 2 separate development teams they could (obviously) spend 2 years making each year’s release. And as an additional bonus, they could develop independently, but could steal each other’s best ideas.

So to start this take is made with playing custom leagues. With all the modes they taken away and should be bringing back hopefully next year if they decide to make sure its only for current gen is gameplay improvements. I feel like they completely ditched the idea of pitching, idk why but ever since 23 released perfect releases arent landing where the I'm asking the ball to go. Thats really causing mlb the show to become one sided with hitting and power being the only factor, and with pitchers unable to command there mix. Its even more so on the black of the strike zone, thats now 95% balls. 22 sadly was the last show with true command with a pitcher where u could have an advantage and strike out hitters.

I was just thinking about the old rtts and how you could go back to college multiple times after being drafted and it just made me think about how lazy the career modes and just game modes in general sports games have gotten. NHL has had the exact same career mode for like 5 years now, Rtts has been stripped to a barebones experience with no quirks available for your player and little to no story, madden doesn’t even have a career mode anymore. It feels like literally 2% of their time in development is dedicated to these modes and that’s being generous

Something we won't be able to do years down the line is play RTTS on these games when the servers shut down. I mean sure, you can play it, but you won't be able to progress. They've made it so to earn better skill sets you NEED to be connected to the servers. So fucking stupid that to play an offline mode you'd have to be online. Especially when those servers will be gone in 3 years time. I tried playing the mode while not being able to progress through the program and I literally never got called up. Because my overall would never be high enough for them to even consider me
