The best thing is the deflated and quiet 'oooh' from the home crowd when a opposing batter hits a no doubter :)

Any HR hit at Coors Field should automatically be disqualified from these type of countdowns.
@schumi246
@schumi246 7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Hannah why?? They keep the balls in a humidor to cut down exit velocity, for the same angle and velocity, they may travel further, but it is harder to get that because of the balls. Therefore, as far as distance goes they should be treated equal. The main reason more home runs are hit there is because pitchers can't throw as nasty of a curveball, because the ball doesn't have as much air to bite into, and won't curve as much, making it easier to get good contact. So, in the end, it is more a psychological phenomenon for the pitcher, than it is the environment.

To anyone saying the distances are wrong, these are obtained from ESPN home run tracker, hittrackeronline.com . Many of StatCast's distances disagree with Hittracker, and several disagree by a significant amount. Frankly, I trust hittracker because they've been doing this for ten years and they really pay attention to the physics and atmospheric conditions.

Joshua Holdaway yes it does, but it's more how dry the air is that makes the balls travel further than the altitude. Pitchers are also more likely to leave a curveball hanging.

I was at the game when miguel Cabrera hit the homerun out of Comerica park. I'm from Detroit so I might sound like a homer but that was 470'+ strait center is 420. He hit it right in the corner above the bullpen about 400'. Then the wall is about 15' from the fence. So 415' and that wall is about 25' high. And the ball didn't drop about 20' after carrying the wall. So 435' still sitting 25+' in the air. It also took a hard skip out into the street. Some pretty high velocity. I'm not saying Cabrera hit a 490 ft shot but that was 470easy

Still these guys will never comparein long ball, too the great Micky Mantle He had 10 of the longest home runs ever àll are well over 565 ft. 3 645, 650 665 and the one that hit the right field fasade 4 inches from going over the roof. That was estimated that it would have traveled well over 700 ft These days very few nearing 475
