Today’s word of the day is ’debut’ as in first career start as in Paul Skenes as in the Pittsburgh Pirates as in top prospects. Skenes made his first start against the Cubs and it was insane. One of the worst pitching innings in baseball happened after Skenes was removed. Kodai Senga injury update! The Yankees are heating up. Aaron Judge is heating up. Panic down. Seth Lugo is performing at an elite level for the Royals. Who saw that coming? The Knicks lost both road games to the Pacers. The Pacers blew them out the water in Game 4. Woof! The Denver Nuggets have tied up the series vs the Minnesota Timberwolves. Can not count them out! Review: Love Lies Bleeding. The Suns have hired Mike Budenholzer to a huge contract. Another giant contract given away by Mat Ishbia. Why is he doing this? Did anyone know the NBA draft lottery was yesterday? Atlanta Hawks are the draft lottery winners! A 3% chance and they did it! Sorry Pistons fans… another year another stinker and another loss in the lottery! NPPOD.

David didn't address it directly, but Verlander, Scherzer, and Kershaw (and possibly Gerrit Cole) might be the last set of pitchers to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The way this generation of front offices and managers handle pitchers and pitching rotations means the number of hurlers who can amass the kind of numbers to meet the HOF threshold, or be dominant enough for long enough to warrant HOF consideration, will be very low, if not actually zero.

There is no "numbers threshold" for the hall of fame. It's subjective and based on voting. Rest easy knowing that pitchers from this and future generations will make the Hall, because they have to.
