It's crazy that this is the 4th 1-run game between these two teams. Had it not been for the 8th inning yesterday, this could have been the 5th 1-run game in just the span of 6 games lol. The Giants managing to win the first 3 games without having a normal starter is extremely impressive, thanks to the bullpen arms only allowing 5 ERs in 22.1 IP (2 ER in 22 IP excluding Luke Jackson in game 1). Tomorrow they go for the sweep but have to face one of the best pitchers in baseball to do it, should be a fun game.
Conforto, Villar, Matos, Jackson, Miller, Tyler, and Doval were the heroes. Giants's Latin Connection coming through big time these days...

Major League Baseball (MLB) doesn't have a rule that explicitly prohibits a fielder from pushing a runner off a base, but umpires are instructed to enforce the obstruction rule if a fielder impedes a runner's progress. @gussinks The fielder had possession of the ball and clearly pushed the runners arm off of the base. By a fair umpire ruling/judgment call, the runner should be safe. By what you are saying, every fielder has the right to push a runner off the base while in possession of the ball and have the umpire call the runner out. By that thinking, there would Never be Any base runners.

Question as a Baseball beginner: Is the pitcher who tries to save usually the best pitcher or are the starters better?
@Dirgnimai75 ай бұрын
Not really a case of "better". It's more about different roles, and finding which role best suits each pitcher. Some pitchers are more suited for multiple innings, and some are best for one or maybe two innings. Good question.
@AntonStachSZN5 ай бұрын
@@Dirgnimai7 who's getting paid better?
@Wolfeson285 ай бұрын
@@AntonStachSZN Starters generally get paid far more than relief pitchers, mainly because they will pitch far more innings in a season (200+ for a good starter, vs. maybe 70 for a top reliever). Also, the number of pitchers who can fulfill the starter role (more innings per game, facing hitters 2-3 times in a game, usually more different pitch types required) is far smaller than the number that can handle 1-2 inning reliever roles, so smaller supply.

That reversal on the Morel slide was absurdly bad(the Giants infielder literally smashed his hand/arm off the bag after he was safe). The fact that Counsell didn't run out there speaks volumes as to why this team plays with zero fire/hustle with the exception of PCA and Morel. The pickoff in the 8th definitely was impressive, although is seemed like a oretty obvious Balk(pitcher definitely stepped toward Home initially...I was at the game behind home plate...awful no call)

@cooperbeer2825 ай бұрын
It's only a balk if the pitcher moves *towards home plate* but then stops and checks the runner. It's also a balk if the pitcher starts and stops his movement without throwing anywhere, like a twitch. Those two make it very confusing 😂 But from what I can see, this play was legal, sadly. His movement only goes up or horizontally, it never goes toward home plate. Hope this helps!
