Even when Jeter got his final home hit, I mean, could he have scripted it any better? I see DJ as a shoo-in first-ballot Hall of Famer, very likely with one of the highest percentages ever! I'm with you I know he's a first ballot hall of famer. #2 was always clutch for us in the playoffs. By the way i want to wish your Red Sox the best of luck when the season begin. +Jesus Draven >> Still, the Sox looked really good on paper last season but underachieved big time... and yes, it's only natural to pull for one's favorite team, and you do well to pull for the Bronx Bombers. I find it great to be able to appreciate the sport and great achievements on the field of play, regardless of fans' allegiances. Sure, we love it when our teams win, but it doesn't take away from enjoying the game and seeing mutual respect, as epitomized by Jeter, whose shoes at shortstop I don't think anyone can adequately fill at this time. He was a fixture at the position, and I dare say the league misses seeing him ply his trade... [Actually, my first love, in baseball terms, was the Montreal Expos (I lived a 4-minute drive from Olympic Stadium), but I kind of gravitated toward the BoSox around 1980, in the days of Rice and Lynn and Yaz]
@dravenbbs669 жыл бұрын
+Victor M. Ferreira Your completely right, the Red Sox did underachieved last year. They put a lot money into Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval which didn't turn out to be great signings. But you do got some young stars like Mookie Betts and Bogarts that were great to watch play. It's going to be a crazy year in the AL east. And expos man back in the early 90's they had some amazing stars on there ball club. Everyone remembers the 1994 season when the strike ruined the season. The Expos had an amazing start to that season who knows they could've won the World Series.

@@hotdogwater7037 Yes, baseball has been doing this for about a century with retiring players. But usually they wait for the retiring player to take the field on defense, then send out a defensive replacement. The retiree gets to walk back to the dugout amidst all the applause. Yastrzemski took a lap around the stadium.

I read through these comments often. As a Yankees fan since 94, this brings tears to my eyes. I have never commented but just wanted to say thank you, Boston fans.

It was a great moment and was at that game. Best Yankee and Red Sox game I ever attended, every fan respected each other for #2 and all he did for the game. As a lifelong Red Sox, I respected and applauded Jeter for all he did for the game.

I was there that day. It was bigger than the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry. It was about respect for the game. I'm so glad it happened at Fenway.

The fact that Derek got a standing ovation from the red Sox who are the Yankees sworn rival shows how great of a player he was

If his final game couldn't be at Yankee stadium, then Fenway would be my next choice simply because of the great history between these two iconic franchises. Perfectly played !

One of the biggest rivalries in sports history and the level of respect from Boston for Jeter shows what a class act the Red Sox franchise is - warms my heart and I am a Cubs fan but also a fan of baseball.

Thank you Boston and Fenway for giving our Captain a respectable and gracious standing ovation as a legend concludes his career on your turf. This truly shows how greatness and sportsmanship transcends a long and bitter rivalry. I hope us Yankee fans can repay you someday once you manage to produce a homegrown talent worthy of our admiration. 🤣 I had to. 💗
