Quick correction: Kristian Blummenfelt not Kristian "Blumminfeld". Sorry about that. I also wanted to make it clear that the goal of this is go talk about some of the top triathletes not the top cyclists in triathlon, although that would be an great topic. (thanks Alexandre)

It’s “Kristian Blummenfelt” and not “Bloomfield” the dude won the Olympic Gold medal. Your list missing a lot of Uber bikers, the list should contain - Magnus Ditlev (FELT) - Frederick Funk (CUBE) - Joe Skipper (Quintana Roo) - Rudy Von Berg (TREK) - Sebastian Kienle (SCOTT) - Andrew Starykowicz (Orbea) - etc
@mlegrand3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that correction Alexandre. The goal for this was to talk about the top triathletes and what bikes they use and not the top cyclists in the sport of triathlon. I didn't do a great job describing that but I'll add a note in the comments and the description of this video to try to make that more clear.

Obviously I’m a Canyon fan. I love those bikes. But, some of the faster women are riding Cervelo, Felt, and Ventum. From my perspective, Canyon is taking over the market though. Hopefully their quality keeps up with the demand. Perhaps a video on new bike tech at the St George IM WC? 🤔

I think I would have pushed #2 to #3, and put Kristian at #1 above Jan. That's just me, though. My budget doesn't even let me contemplate buying any of those bikes, but that Canyon Speedmax looks rather inviting. Being a huge fan of Specialized bikes, though, I have to say I'd be on a Shiv if I had the funds! Quite the interesting topic, Hoss. I think perhaps you should do one about what shoes the top pros are wearing. Keep on keepin' on!

You missed Evan Price!? He's not on a top ten list somewhere? He swears he's 'gotten better' at putting his bike together, but the first time he did it here in Colorado was a show. The mono-arm thing was super cool to see. Chris Long would troll the cat3 field at states for a number of years. He would DESTROY us. Which leads to my next question-a number of years ago, Lance challenged that one guy to a TT bike race (I don't remember who won). In today's world, could the top tri guys hang with World Tour riders? Might have to make the race longer for a fair fight, but curious what you think to that. Lastly, where did you get all the footage of the riders in the film? That must have taken quite a bit of time in the cut room. XOXO
@mlegrand3 жыл бұрын
I used Instagram to get a lot of photos and then a few KZbin clips to get some more movement. Evan should for sure be on this list. I'm pretty sure all of these guys would agree. They fear him. They've seen his lack of flip turn in the pool and they know it's only a matter of time before he puts it all together. Or will he switch to mountain biking? I hear he has a trip with you coming up.

I do wish all of my time spent on YT had the production quality, conversationalist approach, objective intentions and likability of your videos! I will say you mentioned my biggest gripe, in that this was more of a video encompassing the most promoted or otherwise most indulgent sponsors of triathlon as opposed to the fastest bikes. GTN approached the same issue recently, every new bike is the “fastest” with no objective comparison data year after year. The market is filled with unchecked marketing material on products that are not as scientifically backed as they are portrayed. If you’re looking for a content suggestion, I’d love to know what top-spec bikes triathletes are using to train on outside of TT bikes. These get delegated to the trainer or race day, so what are we all out enjoying on group rides or long endurance training not dictating TT position? Is it worth dropping coin on top tier bikes like the Ultimate, Aeroad, Tarmac or Venge for example - if we’re racing predominantly on TT bikes? How about those that should be considering racing single discipline in conjunction with their tri training and race schedule?

Nice video although I feel like the ranking is not relevant to bikes specifically as your title suggested. Instead it felt like your personal ranking for these athletes in general. For example Magus Ditlev, he might not be as fast as these guys you listed in a triathlon event, in my opinion he is one of the fastest bikers in triathlon.

Good point Yuhao. This title is a bit misleading. It might be interesting to discuss the fastest cyclist in triathlon and what bike they use. Thanks for watching this one.

I've got my trusty craigslist acquired aluminum trek speed concept, but I contemplate sometimes the canyon speedmax. though I honestly think dimond beam bikes are the sickest looking bikes there are (or maybe a Cervelo P5X). Who cares if it's the fastest if it looks that good !! For me, having a bike that you love to ride is the most important variable. As for disc brakes, I'm a huge fan of them on my road bike now, and it's hard to go back to the TT bike on rim brakes (and carbon wheels, the worst of all cases for slowing down) but I tell myself if I'm using the brakes too much on the TT bike, I'm probably riding it wrong anyways :D The aerodynamic benefits of the rim brakes are probably a net benefit on the longer rides. though I can see the disc brakes being superior in rain, or in an emergency braking situation (in the case of a TT bike, which is already at much higher speeds than anything else that I own)
@mlegrand3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’m thinking disc brakes for sure. I tend to use the TT bike for hilly training rides so braking gets important.

I'm compelled by the Canyon... I absolutely loved Lionel's bike from 2019/2020 (preferred the aesthetic). It just seems like a well balanced steed for variable terrain. Maybe if I have $15K just laying around, I'll pick up the loaded Speedmax. Maybe they'll take 4 sticks of butter 🧈 🧈 🧈 🧈 🤣 In your case, would you buy a Trek again? I'd have some MEGA PTSD...
