Today's music reaction, Drogbajr Reacts to Elvis Presley If I Can Dream Reaction. Elvis Presley or simply Elvis, was an American singer and actor. Dubbed the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to both great success and initial controversy.

I had heard that after he did this song, he went backstage and actually wept. He didn't let what people said about him, stop him from spreading truth and what he believed in. He was a man of faith, loved God and people. His generosity is historic. What he went through and opened doors for so many in the beginning is astounding. If you get a chance watch the documentary ELVIS AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY, THE ECHO WILL NEVER DIE. I think you would enjoy it to the utmost. Love you Man.

@@warrendelay ACTUALLY..Based upon the interview with Steve Binder (The producer of the special) and On The Official Graceland site..Elvis did have a strong emotional reaction at the completion of the song where he did drop to his knees with emotion.. Whether tears were actually involved, it's not said, but there was a comparable reaction and it's not a you tube rumor. A little research would have been good to determine the facts. Steve Binder's interview is on You Tube from the Official Graceland Channel.

He had wanted to do the song as a tribute to MLK, who he respected a great deal. Then just a few weeks before the taping, Robert Kennedy was also assassinated. The twin tragedies hit him very hard and added that extra level of emotion.

The song was written by Earl Brown when they were taping the show and after both assassinations. The Colonel had wanted Elvis to end with "I Believe".. the producer convinced Elvis that they should find something else so after talking with Elvis about what he wanted to say, Earl Brown sat down and wrote the song in less than an hour... the rest is history....

Elvis grew up in ghetto in Tupelo. He did not have plumbing or electricity. He often had no food. They were the poorest of poor. They moved to Memphis when Elvis was 14. He lived in two different project sites. Many poor people from Tupelo moved to Memphis as there were job possibilities. Elvis’ father had hard time getting work. He had been in jail for nine months. He changed amount of his paycheck just enough to afford enough food. Elvis had a very hard time. Thank you for the respect you showed him. Everyone thinks he was rich. Not so. Eventually, he was, but he gave his money away as fast as he earned. He supported 50 charities alone in Memphis. He was a blessing to so many. I love Elvis.

Elvis wasn't racist. Quite the opposite. He was made to look like one by hateful jealous people who started a rumour ( which was proven false ) and it caught on by people's ignorance, fear and jelousy It needs to stop and the truth made clear. Knowing very well his heart, it hurts his legacy and his fans. Do you thing a racist would sing this song ? Elvis was told not to sing this song because his career would be over. Elvis went ahead and performed this beautiful song in a powerful and passionate manner. He was the only white man who stood up with his black brothers, never against them. View " The Searcher." and" Elvis and the black community . " Elvis fame was not dropped into his lap he worked for it. All that said. I appreciate your honest and heartfelt reaction.

He was so upset about MLK getting killed & it was close to where he lived. He could recite MLK’s Dream speech or the Gettysburg Address by heart. Then in the same year Bobby Kennedy was shot. He didn’t like to spew political views so he always let out his emotions through his singing. I was 13 when all this happened & it was a scary time with the War and bombings and protests & then 2 assassinations of 2 great people left everyone in shock. This song brings it back to me and when Elvis sings a song , he’s so emotive that he reaches one’s soul and brings out your emotions. Thanks for the video.

TIME TO WAKE-UP ..... IT WAS TO WE THE PEOPLE ..... People keep posting ..... That it was to Martin Luther King or Bobby Kennedy .... This song was to so much more than one or two people .....It was to the world ..... As It is in memory of MLK ..... Bobby Kennedy ..... John Kennedy ..... The soldiers of the wars {As Vietnam was in full swing} ..... As the red scarf he wore was to signify their blood and lives lost in that war .... And ..... In-fact all lives lost with such brutality ..... Elvis sang this to the world to form us together as it should be ..... As one group ..... One soul ..... One passion of the people of earth ..... Elvis sang this to us ..... For the people of the world ..... To wake-Up and stop letting Mainstream Media Fake News keep pitting one against another ..... Until the deep state with their Mainstream Media Fake News that keeps the fighting going with lies is gone we continue to battle on with the words of peace for all mankind ..... Elvis sang ..... Were all my brothers walk hand and hand ..... No truer words have ever been spoken ..... To all mankind ..... The proof is that the world is still listening to the king ...... Belt out this song ..... And will continue now and beyond till peace is completely engraved in our lives ..... Praying for peace for all of us ..... As in this one song and singer of the ages ..... And I know the fallen ones ..... MLK ..... Bobby Kennedy ..... John Kennedy ..... The soldiers of the wars ..... Would agree ..... That all killing of anyone ..... And that means ..... EVERYONE STOPS FOREVER ....That is what I believe those who gave their lives would agree to and say ..... ABSOLUTELY

Not a fan of Bobby Kennedy because, as the AG for his brother JFK, he approved the installation of wiretaps on MLK and several of his associates, who the Bureau believed were Communist sympathizers. For more than three years the Bureau kept King under constant surveillance, with its agents sending him anonymous threatening letters in the hopes of stopping his social justice campaigns.

@@ImFrancis325 You likely were not alive when he was so you would not have an accurate perspective. Nobody but Elvis could draw 1.5 Billion viewers to the very first ever satellite concert performance when the world population was 3.2 billion .They watched in 40 countries The Beatles thought they could do the same thing.They soon learned they were not Elvis. Their viewership was just 250 million.Nobody has ever attracted so many viewers More people watched his performance than they did the first moon landing..He broke every concert attendance record everywhere he played.He was practically worshipped throughout the world as if he were a war hero.People of every age idolized him...not just teenagers ..adults, young, children old, every sex, race and nationality There are statutes of him all over the world.Just stepping off a plane for a few minutes got him commemerative plaques and statutes. More journalist attended his news conferences than the president.He was so populat and onfluential that to this day the US Dept of Health credits him with stamping out polio which was killing and cripplingi untold countless youths. When he took the vaccine teenagers went from 2 percent vaccinations to almost 100 percent.There has been no one else with that kind of influence.Democrat and Republican presidents readily answered his calls. President Nixon, almost unheard of, schedule a meeting with him within a half hour notice.If he rode a train, hundreds of fans would be at every stop and try to tip the rairoad car over to see him.Women loved him so much that they ripped his clothes from him, once leaving only his sock and shoe.He was the highest paid movie star of his time.He is the biggest selling artist of all time..more than 2 billion sold.Every man wanted to be him.Every woman wanted him ..44 years post death his popularity is going strong. His home is the most toured home in the US second only to the White House.Barry Gibbs of the Bee Gees recently stated that every artist today would love to be Elvis..not Garth, not Justin, not Prince, not MJ, not Bruce , not Freddy but Elvis. The young black community should be educated about Elvis' life. He was accepted as he accepted the black community. He was loved and he loved. It worked both ways for him. Look who surrounds him and Graceland. If he were alive today I can only imagine what he'd say about racism. God Bless him God Bless MLK. God Bless You !
@matthewdavis418

i agree, that Elvis was not a racist, he loved black people, and even snuck out as a kid to black churches at night. But one reason people bring this up does have a little merit. He didnt steal the black mans music, he highlighted it. But....some of the black folks that came before him, like Crudup, etc never got to see the royalties from Elvis doing their music. Now that is probably more on Colonel Parker, than Elvis, but there was hard feelings there.

Considering his poor up bringing and who his neighbours was I’m surprised people still think he had a race problem all you have to do these days is click a button and those ignorants will soon see just how tough like many others from these areas had and also note there was many whites and blacks living together quite happily the Presley family being one , nice reaction 👍

Things have definitely changed since back then. No one questions my ethnicity anymore because of my skin color. I'm biracial and I remember being with my dad (he's white) in the early 70's and a man who looked to be in his 60's, asked my dad, "Whatchu doin with that little n****r girl?" I remember my dad clearly saying, "She was a gift given to my wife and I. She's my daughter!" That was only the beginning of many incidents. I was in numerous fights because of the color of my skin! I was too black for the white kids and too white for the black kids

Love your reaction. 1968 was a hell of a year. (Tet offensive in viet nam , murders of mlk and Bobby Kennedy, riots, violence in the streets……). I don’t know if Elvis cried but I sure did. Elvis had a beautiful, powerful, versatile voice and he knew how to use it. He put his heart and soul into this performance. I just remember that I found that I found it very moving.

ABSOLUTELY
