Apparently it's the same voice actress (Tabitha St. Germain) in both versions, and the reason why "Original Derpy" sounded the way she did was because Tabitha wasn't aware that Derpy was supposed to be a girl, and based the voice on her neighbor's son.

As someone with amblyopia (lazy eye), I think I would have probably accepted Derpy as being relatable and she definitely would have been my favorite, on that note, if I'd been a kid during the MLP:FiM run.

I’m disabled (both physically and mentally) and loved her character. The parents are the only ones taking offense, absolutely no actual disabled person was offended over this. I actually like her because my voice sounds similar to hers and she’s a silly, cute character.

Original Derpy voice is a great take on it. The censored version, including uncrossing the eyes, was a knee jerk reaction to outcries. But they really brought it back with her reintroduction in Season Four and even gave her a better voice and great character in “Slice of Life”. So it’s interesting. If it weren’t for the censorship, I wouldn’t have the Depry Hooves I love to this day.

Imo, I would like the original animation with the second voice actress better, just keep Derpy's name in the dialog. The original voice actress for Derpy did not know that she is a female, and so she gave her a "boy's voice".

I wonder, between the original unedited version, and subsequent edits, how many versions of "The Last Roundup" WERE there? Off of the top of my head, I can identify 3: - Original - Edit w/ RD just saying "Careful" in the same way as originally, minus "Derpy!" - other voice lines for RD the same, less cross-eyes, and new voice in Derpy - Further edits that change how she delivers her lines towards Derpy, including her sarcastic "Yeah, it's a mystery..." + some animation changes? Any variations I'm missing?

I didn’t actually notice this until I watched the show on Netflix; I noticed that Rainbow no longer called her Derpy, instead not saying her name at all. In my opinion, it is ridiculous that parents would find derpy eyes inappropriate. Doubt it would hurt anyone or giving children bad messages.

derpy has a few "canon" names! shes been called 'Ditzy/Ditzy Doo' and 'Derpy' in the show, and after the censorship they couldnt use her name for merch so they use emojis for her now (one of them includes a muffin, but iirc its never said in the show) :D
