I'm not saying there isn't a rivalry between the cities. I'm sure there is. But Crew v Cincy FC is a brand new matchup. Compared to the Cascadia rivalries or even NYRB v DCU it has no on pitch history. I hope it becomes wortyy of the name, but all the hype in the world won't matter as much as what happens on the pitch or how broad & vocal the fans support the rivalry. Crew & Cincy have good supporters & hopefully these clubs become thorns in each others' sides on a year in year out basis, with loads of games with good road support. But MLS seems intent in convincing us that's already the case. It's an insult to your intelligence, whether you see it or not.

@MickeyKraut4195 жыл бұрын
@@westheking12 Nah... MLS is jumping on it because it's easy marketing. Folks outside the southwest corner of Ohio really don't like Cincinnati... or anything in it. Almost as much as we hate Michigan. FC Cincy is still a fledgling club... it'll take them time to build a good brand away from the major money markets on the coasts. The Crew... well... a lot of us think the club's previous ownership was actively trying to sabotage the quality of the team in order to move them. I think things will look up pretty well for the Crew now that they have an ownership and management team committed to building on the foundation that had already been laid in Columbus, rather than relocate the club half way across the country.

Weird american football. Expansion clubs?! Promovating shouls be ONLY on the field, not with money. That's the first weird thing about this sport in the US. Then there are these clubs that have just a few years of history and get to the top so quickly, without a natural growth. There are teams in England that have been here for 100+ years and have seen the Premier League only recent or about 2 or 3 times in their huge history. American football is unnatural. The fans are "die hard" even from their teams' founding year which was like 10 years ago at best. I mean, c'mon, you can't INSTANTLY become a die hard fan. MLS = Marketing League Soccer, an unnatural competition with plastic fans and team with no history. Still, I apreciate the yanks started liking the planet's top sport, by far.
@maximetremblay94745 жыл бұрын
I agree with you about the unnatural aspect of the MLS. Of course it takes time to become a real die hard fan, but I would not blame a football fan for supporting his local club, even if the club is 1-2 years old.

As a british football fan living in Cincinnati. I completely disagree with everything you just said. Different isnt always bad 🤷♂️ just because EPL has a different fan culture doesn’t make MLS shitty. FCC matches are a great time and the fans are wild and anyone who says US fans have no culture has obviously never been to a match here. You are just salty because you are scared that in 25 years MLS will make EPL look like a chump league.

Proper football is in it's adolescence and well down the pecking order of popularity in the US compared to other major professional sports. So despite that lesser popularity, it's actually pretty rare in the US for a club in a minor league, in any sport, to have a debut attendance of more than 10,000. The popularity of the sport is growing rapidly in the US, and if you need proof of that, just look at clips of the crowds for Seattle Sounders or Atlanta United home games. Those clubs are playing in NFL stadiums and selling out regularly in venues with capacity on the order of Anfield and Old Trafford. I definitely concede the quality on the pitch is still catching up to European standards, but the rabid nature of fans in the US for ALL sports... as the MLS grows in popularity and these clubs grow in value, it's not at all unfeasible in a generation from now for the majority of MLS clubs to be playing in stadiums of 40 or 50 thousand caparcity with a game day atmosphere that will rival that of any major club in Europe.
