Thank you for sharing. I am from a New York Family with DEEP roots in Crailsheim (my grandmother was born in Crailsheim and many generations before her). Nice to see it here.

I grew up in Crailsheim as a military bratt. We lived at McKee base. Tour of the old buildings they converted and how the base changed would be amazing. Belong to a McKee base page on Facebook. I know a lot of folks would be interested. Thanks!

Love it! I have this Horaff lapel pin on my jacket here in Schleswig-Holstein. No one knows what it is, but for me it is a bit of "Heimat" :)

I found your video as I was searching for a specific image. I participated in a 5km volksmarch in 1973 in Crailsheim. I came there to get a participation medal that was much more graphic than any of the images you showed. It was a bronze image of the mayor's wife hiking up her dress and hanging her ass over the side of the wall. Years later I made it into a refrigerator magnet. It was quite a conversation piece. Unfortunately, I lost everything in a fire four years ago, including the magnet. I have searched the internet but can't even find a picture.

I appreciate this video. I was born there in 1981. I want to know more, I loved everything about this video. I'm puertorican and my father and mother traveled there to visit when I was born. My father was in the army.

I was stationed in Crailshiem, lovely town with pleasant people. However the story about the mayors wife and throwing the baked goods over the wall I am sure happened in the walled city of Dinklesbuhl not Crailshiem. It happened during the 100 year war with Sweden.

I came here because I learned that famed clarinettist Sabine Meyer is from Crailsheim. Pretty obscure. Even more obscure: Imagine my surprise to learn from you that the medieval, walled town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, where I stayed a few years back, was among Crailsheim's enemies in your story of the medieval mayor's wife's heroic butt display saving Crailsheim in the 14th century. In Rothenburg, 2 1/2 centuries later, in 1631, the town was being besieged by Catholic forces. Encircled and desperate, the town mayor, Nusch went out to negotiate with the Catholic general Count Tilly and struck a deal. If the mayor could guzzle a huge (3.25L) stein of wine in one, long chug, the besieging army would spare the town from invasion and/or destruction. Nusch pulled it off, the crowd cheered, Nusch slept for three days and the incident became known as the Meistertrunk(Master Draught). See : www.travelsignposts.com/Germany/sightseeing/the-master-draught In those days, I guess nobody accused Germans of lacking a sense of humour!
