The 16340 is the rechargeable lithium version of the CR123. They are the same dimensions, voltage, etc. and are interchangeable. 18650 is the equivalent of a 2 cell CR123 or 16340. A lot of hand held flashlight run the 18650. The naming convention is based on the physical dimensions I.e. 16mm in diameter 34mm in length and they make a lot of common battery types like this. Most range finders, but not all, take CR2 batteries.

Curious as what exactly you are looking for in a scope? Swarovski came out with the new z5i + and has good power offerings. The 2-10 is 17 oz and the 3-18 is 21 oz. I have to see but have seen reviews of the tracking being excellent and they finally fixed their turret which was a Grade F in my opinion before. I own several Leupolds, Nightforce and Swarovski optics. I never had issues and love my Nightforce but they always weigh a bit much. I live in Maine, and I track deer with the Swarovski's (lightweight for tracking 10-mile days in the woods), my Z8i; I dropped my rifle, and it slid down a slope about 100 feet where it hit a tree, I had to "unplug" the packed snow out of my barrel and continue tracking and successfully shooting a buck that day. I have also fallen into a brook on rocks with it and it did not lose zero, so I do trust their durability. That being said I am building a new rifle for a sheep hunt, and I have a voice inside my head saying Nightforce(lol) because it is a once in a lifetime hunt for me and I am willing to go the little extra weight for the "durability" even though I have experience good things with my Swarovski's. I think though I would be fine and happy with the Swarovski and still may go that route. All that being said have you had a durability issue with other brand scopes you have used or is it the Reputation of Nightforce's that "keep" you there.
