Agree with what you commented on KZbinrs as they are misleading on MM2H. MM2H does not grant Permanent Resident or Malaysian citizenship. MM2H only grant successful applicants to long term stay of 10 years in Malaysia but does allow MM2H holder to apply for employment (protect Malaysians employment) but only allows you to start business in Malaysia (create more jobs). If foreigner looking for employment in Malaysia, need to apply for Working Visa. Extension of MM2H is subject for review by Malaysian authorities. Malaysian Government would NOT grant citizenship / Permanent Resident status to foreigners and especially with foreigners that increase population of Malaysian Chinese. I have friends and relatives have foreigner spouse (from China, Taiwan and Europe) whom had been married for long time but still do not grant them Permanent Resident or Malaysian citizenship. They have to keep on renewing "Spouse Visa" once it expires and constantly follow-up on application for Permanent Resident or Malaysian citizenship. SMM2H is similar to MM2H but for those with lower financial capabilities. Sarawak Government does not have authorities to grant citizenship / Permanent Resident status as only Federal Government (Putrajaya) has the power and have to look at existing Malaysian law. On Sarawak oil and gas issue, it is usually only known by Sarawakians, Sabahans and those working in oil and gas would know the issue. West Malaysians (those born in West Malaysia) cannot buy properties and work in East Malaysia (Sarawak & Sabah) in protecting locals there. In recent years, Sarawak Government has setup their own State Oil and Gas Company (goes by the name PETROS) and taken some % ownership in Oil and Gas activities in Sarawak territories which previously between Petronas (control by Putrajaya indirectly) and with foreign Oil and Gas companies (joint venture business model). The Sarawak State Oil and Gas Company or PETROS employs Sarawakians 1st and followed by Sabahans (develop local talents) and a lot of staff are from Shell, Petronas and other international Oil and Gas companies. A few existing joint venture (with production) has started to make royalty payments to Sarawak State Government (of course not as much as what Petronas receiving but at least there is a start). Any new exploration would require license to be issued by PETROS rather than Petronas (for Sarawak territories). With PETROS being setup, has provided employment to locals, bringing back local talents (from West Malaysia and overseas), developing local talents (experienced staff will train the newbies), improve local economy (more people staying in Sarawak, increase demand in properties, consumables and etc) and many more..
