It's far from the greatest style to use in MMA, and definitely one of the hardest to master, but watching two good capoiera fighters match skills is a treat. Certainly no harm in learning the fundamentals and using them when appropriate, either. Except to the opponent who gets smoked with a spinwheel he didn't see.

As long as you have enough reflex to play Mortal Kombat you'll probably be just fine parrying these 300ms kicks. All you need to do is raise your hands to the air after all. Capoeira will never be practical.

It depends on what you want to do, Johnny. If you're looking to do MMA later on, you must learn BJJ as one of the core styles for it. If you're seeking self-growth and being the best that you're able to, then it's not a matter of what style you take, but who you learn from. My sifu once said to me, "When you learn from a master, you learn from a master." There's no substitute to that.

as a Mixed Martial Artist, every form of Combat has a strength and weakness, the Capoeira style, very entertaining to watch, and you have to have amazing endurance to keep moving, but a weakness I DO see that can be exploited, would be a 1 2 takedown, take the legs away and not much out of it (course chances are for the dive for the legs they can sprawl out, or kick you in the face), and then there is Kickboxing, depends on which Variation! since I know of two Muay thai, and Standard.

I think your right to a degree, I mean if someone who purely knows Capoeira is put into a sleeper hold they're dead but it's not unusable. Statistically speaking a Capoeiraist's style of kicking on full impact will injure you more than any other style because of the fact that your full body momentum goes into the kick. Also Anderson Silver is well known for doing some Capoeira and you can sometimes see it. I agree though it's not the most effective on it's own but neither is any style really.
@pardolagames8994
@pardolagames8994 2 жыл бұрын
Capoeira is unpractical and if you're talking about momentum anyone can build it up and do a spin kick, which would open your defense for a well given jab, parry, dodge, or shit like that.

What you mean is that he modified it for UFC and had to incorporate other styles and training methods therefore making his art a mixed martial art. For the longest time I wanted to believe that capoeira was a viable martial art - one that could compete with others (because I like Brazil and Brazilians). I've finally accepted that it doesn't stand up to other forms of fighting. This is one example. And yeah, maybe he wasn't the best capoeirista but still, too much dancing, not enough violence. Once the opponent can time the capoeirista's rythym, the fight is goign to be over soon.

yo, all you haters this guy is still figuring out how to use his art in the ring, but don't count out the art. capoeria, like taiji and many others, are generally taught for exercise and culture, but there are people out there who can use it very well. I have a sparring partner who uses cap, it works well for him, he can kick from all angles, from the ground, and he avoids attacks with counter kicks you can't see coming. don't bash the art, it's the practitioner.

1. Lyoto Machida modified karate for MMA, and in the same fashion Marcus "Lelo" Aurelio and Marcus Vinicios did it with capoeira. 2. you said "someone who studies capoeira and fights in a cage will get his ass handed to them because as a martial art it is too limited." so is muay thai, doesn't stop people from implementing it in the cage. And still i proved you wrong by showing not one but four Capoeira victories.

@Alemazeta Capoeira uses allot of spinning and quickly moving your hands, they're used to help turn your body to send the momentum into the kick or dodge and also used for a few blocks, now if the chain did something unpredictable, such as flipped around to your back, or you didn't compensate correctly for the extra weight it could kill your balance. The feet use mostly momentum, meaning it would just dull the power a bit, they don't maneuver as much, if you can walk you can kick.

I think the main problem with the practical application of capoeira is that yes, it's fighting disguised as dance, but...it's dance. It's designed so that all the moves are telegraphed so that your partner can get safely out of the way. It's full of flashy power moves that have little to no purpose in a true fight. And it's exhausting. You can't dance around with all those big sweeping movements for 15-25 minutes while trying not to get hit in the face and expect not to be tired.

capoeira is a martial art that depends on how much time you put into it and who the person using it is.it can be a really effective martial art if you know how to use it.it can be slow but most of the time it is super fast and secretive.as you say in a "Real Fight" capoeira is for quick precise movements that would put you down in one hit, in this video the fighter obviously did not know how to use the kicks effectively.if you have ever seen a mestre capoeirista get mad it is over in 15 sec!

@Alemazeta Capoeira is often practiced in a ring of people about the size of an arena, maybe smaller. Watching this video over, he has a few moments of actual capoeira but most of this he's just punching, it also looks like he tripped when he went down... Having the hands chained would be worse as they would get tangled on your body. Additionally, if someone could pull off those kicks with a metal chain they could easily catch your neck in the chain and your toast.

The capoeirista is (out of habit) keeping the "safe"distance to his oponent. Look closely- he's not even near sending a proper kick, 'cause he doesn't get close enugh, as capoeira isn't really about kicking each other's asses, but demonstrating flexibility, strenght and skills. It's more like showing "hey, look what I'd do to you if I really wanted to hurt you".

@PhilosoFighter2012 yeah, originally capoeira wasn't made for you to hit the opponent. It started as an Afro-Brazilian dance, and the aim of the game wasn't to beat up your opponent, but to get them off rhythm. So capoeira wasn't made for fighting, but it can do a lot of damage since someone who isn't familiar with capoeira can get confused with the movements

@CappitranoBellephant I agree with you, but i have seen MMA fighters get handled and knocked out by Capoeira fighters. It is meant to be an adaptive fighting style hidden in the dance movements because of the law at the time. The people who use this style the best don't dance around and have a pretty good take down game as well. The one thing my instructors and trainer taught me was to never belittle another martial art. But rather understand and learn from it then you will respect it.

@DevelopYourself I practice wing chun which kinda comes at things from the opposite end, you only move when it's necessary, but still the fights are usually very short...a matter of seconds so stamina doesn't really come into it on a one on one basis. We use circles of motion though, from what I've seen of capoeira it uses circles but the examples I've seen on youtube seem to show people constantly moving in those circles even if it's rocking back and forth rather than full spins.

Capoera is a dance rather than fight, more like an art.

Although I like to watch capoeira fights I think it's most useful as an invading tactic, but I suppose it's good in defense also...

@Unitzero25 I disagree. I study Aikido too. I love them both, but don't feel it is as optimised as Capoeira for multiple threats. It has as close to a 360-degree view in all planes as is possible, due to the idea that you are turning on hands and feet, upright and inverted. Remember, Capoeira's sweeps are designed to take your feet and toss you into the air - things break ;-)

I think of the capoeira jinga as a constant switch in stance (l fight stance , horse stance , to right f stance) and it removes our tendency to prefer once stance over the other. How ever much like u wouldn't use a kata from karate in a fight neighther would u play capoeira in a real fight or do any fancy foot work or flips. Essentially the kicks are all the same just the entrances give them an extra dosr of unpredictability if done correctly

After that first kick you can tell the Capoerista gave up on the dancing and went for a more aggressive approach. Kind of a disappointment, would have been cool if he kept up the energy and kept dancing around the boxer.

The Capoeira guy is quickly exhausted with the elaborate kicks. That's the problem with styles like Kung Fu and Capoeira. People think there are 'secrets' and one style is the best. In the end, the fastest with the best technique wins. I do kung fu, which will build a flexible and strong fighter well into their nineties, but people that think they can do KF for a year and beat up anyone. Muay Thai and MMA producers fighters the fastest but with injuries. All styles have benefits and drawbacks.

one guy will always beat another in the ring. you can blame it on his style, but it usually comes down to skill and endurance.

@JumpForYourSoul and the swaying is simply to increase your focus so you can anticapate and react quicker to any attack, once you are a master like tony jaa you can plan several capoeira mechanics the instance you see him move(because a master knows where your enemies momentum is heading the instance he twitches to attack you and plans 5 moves ahead at every attempt to attack you) and THAT is why it is so great, it is very hard to master, which is why they spend their lives studying the physics!

It's like a karate guy showing off all his katas during the fight, which would be unecessary.This guy is just probably doing this for show, but in itself moves from capoeira are just as effective as Taekwondo for example. I have seen a few capoeira demonstration in Martial arts tornaments in Brazil and believe me If you dress an experienced capoeira fighter in Taekwondo gi and you tell him not to dance you would think that he is a Taekwondo black belt who's just showing off.

before talking about how capoeira is a dance, to search about it. Capoeira is a martial art, were added by practitioners slaves, whose rhythmic movements, to the practice capoeira were not prohibited, this was one way to camouflage it, Capoeira is considered the fight liberating of slaves!!

Personally I think the biggest mistake of the capoeira guy is that he tried just throwing one kick at a time. I don't even do Capoeira, I do TKD and I've found that no matter what style you use throwing one move at a time is a REALLY good way to lose. You can definitely win a fight with pure capoiera if you're good at it and you actually use combos
