This is one of the most objective, yet rich and useful videos about the trill technique on KZbin. Combined with those of Danae Dörken and Josh Wright, for example, it gives the student very good guidance on practicing trills. Good job Greg, I really liked it!

Dear Greg, I saw your video and could not believe that you prepared it so soon, despite your busy schedule. This video and the Hanon video have so many great points to develop the technique. I really am excited to start following them and put it in my daily practice schedule. Although I have not yet started practicing them, but I will and I will report to you my advancement. Thank you again for putting so much time in sharing your talent with the world. It means a lot to all of your followers. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Not sure how I stumbled upon this video. It's an interesting idea and seems worthy of trying. Unfortunately I can't be bothered to actually study and practice anymore but I'm going to start doing this with 4 and 5 occasionally throughout the days just to see since like most I never 'mastered' with those fingers

For me, I try to think of the most positive, yet interesting reply I can share on your video productions or all of your videos, but it is becoming difficult because I enjoy your videos so much the only reply I can think of off the top of my head is a superlative that somebody or myself has probably said 1000 times, (and I mean that in the most flattering way) and I think after a while this may get redundant for you, but I hope not , and with that in mind thank you again for an awesome tutorial on trills

I’m so glad you have this tutorial on trills!! I begged my teacher several times to help me learn the trills better. He never wanted to talk about technique, (which kind of leads me to believe that he didn’t want me to succeed but that’s another story and why I eventually ended up leaving him). My trills are horrible. I don’t feel secure about them, in particular in Chopin Sonata, No. 3, 1st mov, bars 81 and 191. I believe it is a turn actually, a six note turn. I do believe you need to take time here and make space for it and not rush. I think it should be delicate. Use rubato but it’s still very difficult. I was playing the first four notes rapidly and the second two notes slowly and my teacher said to turn it around the other way do 2 rapidly and 4 slower or do it in groups of 3 and 3. I can’t control it nor the rubato needed from last 16th note into the following bar (circled in yellow )is very awkward, Difficult. 😮

Thank you for this lesson. I've always had a question that I've been curious about. Does it make trill playing more effective when one of our fingers is on the keybed while the other does not receive support from the keybed? Sometimes I can play trills very effortlessly and smoothly, but it doesn't always happen. Honestly, I'm curious about what happens when I can do it. Is the idea of not having both fingers on the keybed correct? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on this.
@gregniemczuk
@gregniemczuk Жыл бұрын
Well, it might be correct.... but I think that when you can play the trill effortlessly you BECOME ONE with the keyboard. Your fingers are a part of the keyboard. You just cooperate with the mechanic. This is the best moment..... there is no keyboard and you - just ONE thing.....

Would be most appreciated seeing the notes. On paper, or slowly your hand. Have to practice Morningmood-trills 😮

Getting the fingers to work can be a problem and finding the combination that works best is a useful exercise. But the problem I encounter is around hand independence. I can trill like a maestro when using just one hand. Playing a trill (usually in the right hand) while trying to play notes in the left I find almost impossible.

Hi Greg, I was wondering if you had any advice on playing the trill in Mozart K332 1st movement, at the very end of the movement in f major (last few measures). The coordination with the left hand feels very awkward. The trill on its own is fine, and the left hand on its own is fine too. How do you recommend to listen to or practice this passage? Or anyone else who wants to answer. Cheers
