This is my favorite piece of classical music. I am glad I stumbled on to your analysis of it! It really is very powerful and uplifting, not light and fluffy, it's something to shout victorious about!

Greg, I think Chopin channels Schubert in this prelude. The bass tremolos, major/minor shifts, and the super harmonies, of course. what do you think?

What a beautifully relaxing way to enjoy your lecture, in a hot bath after being caught in the rain. Thanks again for sharing such beauty! It was the whisper for me.

The beginning of this prelude is more or less identical to the end of prelude no. 2 in a minor. It's even the same key and inversions! I find it very interesting, I wonder if it was on purpose and if there is any meaning behind it, could also likely be just a coincidence.

You're right! I don't know... Probably a coincidence, as they are not so close to each other in the whole opus...

Hmmm... Difficult question. B major, but also b flat major and F major, and b flat minor.... I have many 😀

There is one thing that annoys me when I come across it in any commentary on Chopin's music, whether it is a spoken or written article or a book. That annoying thing is the juxtaposition of Chopin with Beethoven with the silent intention of telling me something like this: "Hey, do you see Chopin being able to match Beethoven? What a surprise, don't you think?".

As for the tempo, of all the performances of this prelude I know, this is the only one that truly respects the "largo" designation. Listen, please, to the way Sergio Fiorentino plays it, and you will hear the absolutely marvelous beginning of the prelude. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4S7aKSHeLCCmZI
