His striking is lovely to watch. I'm nearly 43, used to read Black Belt magazine when Bill Superfoot Wallace was featured in it. Payton's striking shows how far the bar has risen for the martrial arts in general. A lot more naturally gifted fighters are incentivized to choose mma over other sports now. The UFC has nasty vibes, but it created the momentum that incentivized this rise in the martial arts, so I cannot help but feel grateful. Has Payton faced any strong wrestlers? I wonder if he can handle someone like Merab yet.

So many people have this idea that you need to train in MMA for years or you wont stack up at all. Here we have a guy that trained for 9 months with a ton of talent that looks like he's going to get pretty far. One certainty in life is that people are always wrong

Thats true but he started at 18 and now he is 25. Thats 7 years of training, its not much but thats a lot at the same time if he trains 6 days a week like a beast. He is probably very good in a lot of different sports and is very athletic without doing much. Cyril Gane and Benoit Saint Denis also started pretty late and they have the same particularities. I am curious to see where he will go. I like his fighting style and his personality

It’s just superior genetics combined with flexibility which give some people a natural advantage in strength, reaction time, speed, fluidity etc. He’s been a big time skater and BMX stunter since a very young age, meaning he’s likely been involved in many injuries which have conditioned his bones, immensely strengthened his arms and core, and significantly improved his flexibility which are all great assets for fighting.
