Sean & Grasso looked 'defeated, demoralized, flat, etc' bc of what their opponents did to them in R1 & consistently throughout the rest of the fight. They didn't come into fight week or the octagon that way. People reserve excuses such as "flat, off night, this or that version, possible injury" for their favourites & those they expected to win but lose. Whereas when those fighters win, their opponents never get that same benefit. For instance, not one person said Chito looked flat or had an off night, Sean got all the praise & credit. Let's be fair, keep the same energy & give credit where it's due.

You're absolutely right,although Omaley seems trying to do something in rounds 3 and 5,but of course he totally blew out 1,2,4 and looks inactive,almost like Sandhagen in Nurmagomedov fight. Grasso takedowns defense seems out of the combat competition totally, 50-45 fair sentence of what happened in this fight

Exactly what I was thinking! Well said!

Agree completely. As much as I'm not a fan of the wrestling base fighters and would rather see more stand up. The reason that the two of them "seemed" flat is because their opponents dictated where the fight was going and dominated them. The credit should all go to Merab and Valentina for their game plan and dominating their opponents.

Every time someone says “not to take anything away from Merab” they take credit away from Merab. “A fully trained and prepared Omalley,” c’mon, he was ‘fully trained and prepared.’ Neither him or his team claimed otherwise. Was Aljo ‘fully trained and prepared?’ No 4th fight needed for Grasso/Shevchenko. It’s hard enough to stay awake for PPV.

Danny said he wondered if O'Malley was hurt and he pointed to his corner telling him the fight is almost over. And since then, O'Malley has revealed he'll be having surgery on his hip. This isn't an excuse, Merab was a beast and deserved to win the title. But what Danny said wasn't off. I agree on the Shevchenko-Grasso take. No 4th fight ... for now.

@@MMAJunkieGeorge if O’Malley won and ‘revealed’ he had a torn labrum he would have received 200% credit and praise. A fight at the magnitude of Sphere is an outstanding opportunity but if you lost, no excuses take 100% accountability, at the very least perhaps show up at the post fight press conference and not go making videos in a singlet sprawling on a torn labrum right after the fight? If you are fighting a take down machine, you should make sure your hips are ready. O’Malley however walked away with probably his biggest bag yet, do what you gotta do.

@@DavidSmith-yk6li I appreciate the discussion. But when you say he would've received praise and credit, you cast a blanket over everyone and assume that all of us would have done that. My opinion is, you sign the dotted line, you accept the consequences. Also, I don't think everyone comes in 100%. They're all dinged up.

1 scenario or option you guys didn't discuss is...What if Chandler beats Olivera...The UFC will right away schedule Chandler vs McGregor and if McGregor beats Chandler... At that point he "Mcgregor" should be ranked number 2 and you know what that means...Islam vs McGregor with Khabib in Islam corner...Now that fight will be "HUGE/BIG"....I guess time will tell...Chandler needs to beat Olivera and he will definitely get the McGregor fight and if Chandler beats McGregor, he will get a title shot for himself...It works out for everyone.

That is a lot of ifs, for now, I'm just happy Chandler has moved on and has a date. Who knows if we ever see McGregor back.
@ralphmadrid6982Ай бұрын
@MMAJunkieGeorge I agree, I'm glad Chandler moved on also "for now" and booked a fight. I guess we see what happens after Chandler vs. Olivera results are in.
