+Mac Lethal Actually his debut was in UFC 2, but yeah. He's one of the best. Although one of the biggest screw ups in history of reffing is when he restarted Lindland vs Bustamante after Busta had the armbar. He is also a little too aggressive at times, like when he rushed in and broke Brian Johnston's nose. Yuji Shimada will always be number 1 head ref for me.

+Mr. Rotten Treatz but john was the one who pushed the ufc to add more rules and power to the ref, back in the ufc 1 - 8 days (not entirely sure when) he was not to stop fights by tko, but only when a KO or a tap out happend. I'm not even sure if he could stop it when someones arm broke. they had to throw in the towel. in an interview he says he used to scream at corners to throw in the towel. he got that fixed. wich makes him pretty much #1 in my book!

Big John is the man. In the old days you could see the authority he had in the octagon. He managed everything pretty well (TKOs, submissions, clinching etc), considering MMA didn't have any rules and was much more barbaric than what it is today. He even got the gig thanks to Rorion Gracie when he replaced the first ref because the guy being a bjj practitioner made too many mistakes.
