What people don't understand about the Russian grapplers is that even though they prefer Sambo to BJJ they are well versed in bjj. Khabib put one of the cleanest triangles on Justin that you will ever see. Islam from the top was able to anticipate and stop all the subs Charles was throwing his direction and eventually finished him with a BJJ triangle just like he finished Drew Dober with. Volk will be a unique challenge for Islam because of his height strength footwork and speed but if Volk can't get it done nobody in LW will for the next 5-7 years

He ain’t going win the belt no more if Islam has it. Made no sense for him to put ego and pull guard and try to grapple with him as much as he did. Islam came in more cut and ready, perhaps heavier than him. He was humbled today, he came in talking a lot of smack. And then islam was able to bang with him standing, which no one expected, even dropped him a few times. I think he had his time as champ and his run was good but I don’t believe he will be champ again as long as islam has the belt.

I love Charlie and if I'm honest as an individual I like him more than Islam but the legacy behind Islam was just too much. Oliveira wasn't in there with one person he was in there with three and seeing Islam hang the belt off Khabib while he dedicates the win to Abdulmanap just confirms that for me(also made me tear up). Charles is an inspiration constantly struggling onward overcoming greater and greater obstacles to achieve his goal but sitting across from him was literal generations of effort culminating in Khabib's "little brother". RIP Abdulmanap you were to Russia what Helio was to Brazil.

As much as I respect what Oliveira has accomplished in the ufc, Makhachev just has a higher level fight IQ. Only those who have competed at a disciplined level, can understand the difference between a skilled and talented fighter who can put many combos together well and a fighter who can do the same but with a highly tuned fight IQ that allows for adaptations to the original fight strategy. Only those who have an elite mental and psychological discipline can dominate the likes of those who rely completely on self. Although I believe Oliveira will still have success going forward, a rematch won't change the outcome.

Charles said Islam is better than him, that's the reason why he was broken hearted. Charles realized Islam is much better than him. All fighters know losing is part of their profession and they are somewhat OK with that. This is not the first time Charles lost a fight. However, it hurts when you think you are (were) on top of the mountain and the guy just took the title from you is so much better. If you watched the fight again (and again), you'd see Islam is faster, controls distance better, reads the movements better, strikes harder, and his ground game is better. Charles was barely able to hit him with any significant strikes. He was able to get Islam to the positions that were supposed to give him advantage and win the competition just like his previous fights, and yet, he was unable to even make Islam uncomfortable. That is why Charles is broken hearted. Imagine now Islam with even more confidence, taking the belt back from him will not be an easy task.

Top fighters usually possess some of the following qualities: - Powerful punches - Been knocked down close to 0 time - Don't bleed - Close to 100% take down defense - Ability to take down his opponent at all time Jon Jones, Francis Ngannou, Cyril Gane, Kamaru Usman, Khabib Nurmagomedov have exactly these qualities. Charles Oliviera doesn't. Get dropped in every fight and then magically manage to submit your opponent or land a lucky blow isn't the way.
