Love this! But JD explains in his autobiography that this special was filmed in Alberta, Canada yes we have the Rocky Mountains in western Canada as well. Nothing about this is Colorado. And Tom his host is a former Canadian Mountie... Well known in Canada. ❤

What a superb little film.Never seen this and was blown away by it.For all his imperfections,john Denver was a very special human being and one who died far too young .We need more people like him because all the issues he cared about are still with us and in many cases are more critical now.I'd love to have met him and told him how much his music meant to me.Rest in peace.

I advised our Greta Thunberg (?) of Johns concern for our earth and the Arbor society. its likely she may not know of him and that is not her fault. She is simply not alone. Our earth is home to ALL people. I agree with your comment.

I corresponded with someone who had seen him in concert in Blackpool,England.He came on stage to a packed house of fans and apologised for the fact that the members of the band hadn't made it to the concert because of problems with plane flights and weather.The merchandise hadn't arrived either,and there was just him and I think,a drummer.He gave the audience a choice of either having their tickets refunded or going ahead with the show.everyone stood up and shouted to go ahead with the show and it was absolutely brilliant apparently.i would have given a lot to be there!

I am from BC Canada. I was camping at Sheridan Lake. Tommy and his crew were there. They brought out a projector and played a film on the side of a 5th wheel. I can't remember which one, but he signed posters for all of us kids that were there.He was such an amazing man. I remember him asking me what I liked most about living in the cariboo. I replied to him...." there is so many lakes to catch fish". He laughed and said "yes, there is" Still an avid fisherman at 46, I think I was 10 or 11 at that time. He had made visits to my local schools around that time. God bless the Tompkins Family

This is amazing experience. I love the wilderness and the adventures going down the river on a hand made raft by two rugget adventurers. Watching my most favorite singer John Denver singing on the rocks in pure nature in the raw.

I remember that red leather jacket of John's. I saw him in concert, my first concert in 1972 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was wearing it when he left the venue. I had a photo taken with John. Mike Taylor, John's guitarist, was the photographer! It was an amazing moment in my life and remains so, all these years later.

I didn't really expect to find this film. I searched "John Denver Bighorn" anyway; and here it is! Thanks for posting. First chance I've had to view it in nearly fifty years. I couldn't remember who the Canadian guide was--had thought it might be Andy Russell, also Canadian, contemporaneous with Tommy Tompkins and an author who written books about Bighorn sheep. Memory restored!

It was as "Denver in Colorado" that this was shown on British TV back in the seventies. He had made some debut live shows on BBC around that time-my first delightful encounter with this amazing man. I never missed a concert when he came to Scotland 1976 onwards.

By "encounter" I meant watching him on television on his debut British shows -I think in 1973 . I regret I never got to speak to him. I should have done the stage-door wait thing. I treasure the memories of each concert, and a couple of autographed photographs he sent me in 1976. I hope to get to talk with him in the great beyond. He has left a very positive benign influence in the world, for which I am grateful.

I remember well Colorado, California, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and the Dakotas, the northwest Pacific in the 1970's before all the destruction. It was SO beautiful! Arizona, too, of course. It was truly great to see the reality of this beauty at that time, British Colombia too, and Alberta, Glacier NP, Banff, and that whole area. There was a great deal that was still pristine, unharmed. I was privileged to have been born when I was, and to be able to see these places when I did.

Wild horses didn't even receive their first legal protection until 1971, so they were known to be at their lowest number, 27,000, as they are now in the Wild, so were not in any position to deplete the range. For more than a hundred years, it is cattle that have been given preference, and they do a great deal of damage to range, not horses. The cattle industry is very well funded, and has a powerful lobby to advance their position in the minds of the public and for grazing rights, and as such, they have wanted wild horses removed. One wonders who sponsored John Denver's voice and scripting in all this, to hire photographers to shadow these trips to record it all, and to air these pieces on television. Certainly, viewers here realize that the television industry will not open their doors to air any program or any narrative; such things must be approved at very high levels. And here, in 1972, when wild horses were at their lowest number as they are again now, after a 120 years of wild horses being killed on the range by cattlemen (1850-1970), horses were being villified in this program. They beat the same drum of lies against the wild horse, when in actuality, the wild horse is a vital Keystone species, a necessary species for the maintaining of the range. They have their own dietary forage species such that there is only 11% in common with cattle (they eat different grasses than cattle), and a far different diet than that of elk, deer or bighorn sheep, not to mention their differing terrain. Horses do not live as bighorn sheep, they are not designed to handle that terrain, and yet here they are once again villifying wild horses.

This program talks about the Bighorn Sheep not having the knowledge to find good winter range, that that knowledge was lost, but they don't say how. Then they go on to say that transplanting of sheep is the way to go, but that is how sheep don't have local knowledge of the new place they were moved to. This has caused problems for decades, and man continues to think that he knows best, and interferes with natural processes that were just fine until he inserted himself, moving animals around. How can one expect a herd of any species to know where the good winter range is, if they are new arrivals that have no generational knowledge of that region? Further, they say there are 5 different "races" of sheep, but that is an incorrect word usage that is politically motivated to impart an incorrect message on the listeners. There are 5 different subspecies of sheep, not races. Even as to mankind, there is but one race, the human race. There are different ethnicities, different cultures, but there is ONE race. There is a species to each kind of creature, then there are subspecies within that one kind. They are not races, not among the animals, and not among mankind. Beware of words, for they are used to divide your mind against yourself through the formation of harmful attitudes and mentalities that are used against mankind.
