I know you don't like defensive football (and neither do I really), but the reason that the rams couldn't move the ball is because belichick set up this crazy defensive scheme to stop the rams scheme. The rams DOMINATED EVERYBODY with their run game and play action scheme, but belichick found a way to stop it. He actually used the formation you always use, 4-3 even 6-1. He sent so many people that the rams didn't have time for play action and couldn't run the ball, and, crucially, stephon gilmore and the defense locked up in coverage.

Not putting 49 at the top is an absolute snub, even if you dont like that it ended on a "mistake" (debatable). That game was the greatest, most evenly matched, most competitive, most complete, and most jaw-dropping performance I have ever watched. There was so much at stake for the legacies of both teams. The backstories and hype was exhilarating. The Jermaine Kearse catch was insane. It was precisely the twist ending even that enhances its greatness as well. Truly the best game on the list and furthermore the best superbowl ever played.

This analogy is flawed in the sense that it is a terrible comparison, as well as not acknowledging the fact that basketball requires its players to play both offensive and defense, while in football they simply play the other team’s defenses.

funny thing about 11:41 is that my dad actually taught me how football works during this game. i was a lot more invested in what was actually happening than normal. he explained what downs were and i finally understood. i learned a lot about the game while watching. i didn’t realize how amazing that superbowl was until after. i now feel like i saw genuine history. I want to say that yes, in 49, it came down to a catastrophic mistake. BUT! But, but, but... the REASON they had that huge mistake is Belichick's absolutely EPIC non-timeout call there as the time ran out. He knew that Pete was going to pass on that play to make sure he would get a chance to use all his plays, and so he let time run down knowing that if his team was as ready as they possibly could be for the goal line play they KNEW was coming. If he calls a timeout there (as you can hear the announcer in the booth kind of freaking out about him not calling it), then they switch out of that play, probably call a run, or a different play, and the Pats lose that chance. It was amazing to watch in real time.

Super Bowl 49 made me a pats fan. I’m from New England but I also was almost a Seahawks fan bc of SB48. That year I made a pot with both the Patriots and Seahawks logo and sure enough that was the Super Bowl the next year! But for the game itself, that game was perfect. Right amount of scoring right amount of defense, right amount of offense, a comeback and a crucial play to seal it off. Me personally I hate high scoring games and I’ll respect putting 52 in S, and I’ll respect your decision for 53. However even as a Pats fan, 51 was great in the moment and not as much rewatching it. You’ll regularly see me watch SB49 every year bc it was on my sisters birthday! But all in all, I will stand on that hill that SB XLIX was the best Super Bowl I fully watched (oldest memory I have of football was cheering when Tyree made the catch in 42 [whoever my mom cheered for I cheered the opposite]) hope you or anyone read this

As for the Falcons Vs Patriots Super Bowl, my reason it's not an S tier SuperBowl is simple. You basically need to wait until the bottom of the third quarter for the game to become interesting. And even then, it's partially watching the falcons self destruct while the patriots exploit their faults. And if Rams vs Bengals and Eagles vs Chiefs are B's I really don't agree with the fact that the greatest quarter of a super bowl by a team, translates to a great SuperBowl. There's a huge reason why like half of America missed the Patriots comeback, myself included despite sitting down to tune in. I'd relent and do A but I think B fits this better if we are rating the whole game and not the moment, legendary yes, and mad respect for Brady(coming from a Jets Fan) but it's not an S tier Superbowl if I have to wait 40 minutes of game time(or about 2 hours of IRL time) for the game to become an actual game rather than a one sided stomp.
