OK, this in NO way supports the actions of Alec Cook. What he did is reprehensible and criminal. He deserves his fate. But.... There is no 'treatment' or 'cure' for sexual predators. There is intensive therapy which may or may not inhibit a predator's actions and there is chemical castration for males. That's it. I live in Washington State, the state that pioneered civil commitment laws, and there is a reason why our society is reluctant to use these methods. That reason is Nazi Germany. And make no mistake, civil commitment is a prison sentence in a hospital setting. The inmate/patient has almost no chance of release. While I will grant you that these facilities are not concentration camps, the violation of civil liberties is something we all should be concerned with. In my state we're very careful about who get sentenced to civil commitment. Yours, be it Wisconsin or someplace else, will no doubt be different. Alec Cook deserves his sentence. But we should be vigilant that one day the defendant won't deserve it.

committing someone for something that could happen isn't right and should never be done. If he has committed a crime then put him in jail. But putting someone in jail for something that might or could happen opens the door for other such things to be done to other people. Putting someone in jail for something that hasn't happened is wrong no matter what the crime. This should not happen in America. Don't get me wrong what he has done in the past is horrible. but you can't go around locking people up for something that hasn't happened yet. This is wrong no matter who or what they are. Anyone that thinks this is ok better think again because they will not stop at this kind of thing they will do it for other things too. This is a dangerous precedent to set
