Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

What I found on the farm and on the road to solve this issue is by going to the farm store and buy a few bags of granite chicken grit. It’s so much better than sand because it’s odd shaped and will not just roll under the tires like sand. It’s amazing on ice for walking and driving.

Zach when we were hauling corn to town there was always ice around the bins from the snow melting off the bin roofs and one time I was at the site and there wasn't cellphones back then so I ran a bushel or two on the ground and corn makes great traction I found out.

I grew up on a wheat/milo farm. There were "elevators" (tall concrete silos) where we could store our grain until we sold it. They were spaced about every 7 miles and were sitting next to railroad tracks so we only had to haul the grain a few miles. If we ever got snow we'd sit it out until it melted or (more commonly) blew into the next county.

Well, might as well chime in too. Snow blower is useless all but for maybe the driveway. Sell that get a set of chains and a box scraper. I have a 35hp Kioti and can stack show into 6ft tall piles with it. It will drag a large pile of snow with a clean line a fair way and you can make it take an aggressive bite if needed, then lift and reverse and push it up in a pile where you want it. With that wonderful plow you have on the front you could work in both directions, and in a tall gear smoking across the lot. Also maybe a sand spreader for the Moline. Captain armchair snow mover signing off. Thanks for the videos,

I would think keeping one of the tract tractors available as a puller for these situations would be a good precaution to take. Puller as to use the yankem and not for the trailer. Just thinking the traction would be much better than the wheels in those conditions.

2 latitude degrees south of the Northwest Territories, way up in Alberta, is some farmland homesteaded in the 1970s. I asked a farmer there about frost, re seeding and harvest. They can only get the seed in the ground by the beginning.of July. All crops are off by the end of August. All done in 2 months. Superfast growth because of the LONG sun in the summer. With VERY SHORT sun in the winter. They match and raise you Minnesota folk re early darkness.
