Need advice please. Walking out from the culture center we turn right? From there to where you turn left of the gravel road can you help me please? What can we look for?
@RoughingItWithRuth2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, when you exit the cultural centre you turn right. You head left up between the homesteads just after crossing a small bridge. I think it is about 2km along the road. I would recommend getting GPS track of the route (the Mnweni Marathon track is good).

Thanks - this video is incredibly helpful! Is there any chance you know where one can access the GPX/KML file for this route? Would really like to look on google earth as shown on your video.

You can email me at ruth@roughingitwithruth.com and I will send you the file I have. The file I have is the one that was used for the Mnweni Marathon. There are some places in the Mnweni valley where the path has changed slightly due to a major flood, but the general direction of the path is the same. You can see the flood damage in my video "Virtual Drakensberg Backpacking Adventure in South Africa's Mountain Wilderness" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZWlk2ung96rfJY

Do you use slingsby maps and if you do where do you buy them
@RoughingItWithRuth3 жыл бұрын
I do use the Slingsby Maps (they're great!) and I bought mine at various Wildlife offices at trailheads. They can also be purchased online and couriered to you.

Thanks! Yeah, we were all having a good chuckle about that!

Also how would you rate it vs Mafadi which I've done recently ? Thanks
@RoughingItWithRuth6 жыл бұрын
I actually have not done Mafadi yet; I definitely need to add it to the list! Sorry that I can't compare it directly for you. Mafadi is further south, and the southern Drakensberg does differ from the northern Drakensberg. I would say that if you have managed Mafadi then you should be able to manage this.

Why do I not see waterfalls and rivers
@RoughingItWithRuth6 жыл бұрын
There are several rivers in the area (such as the Mnweni River, which you hike next to for most of the approach to Mnweni Pass) and they do have some cool boulder beds, but as far as I know there aren't any big waterfalls on this route.

Great video. However, the music is painful

Thanks, and sorry about the music. I definitely should have taken the volume down a lot more.
