I listened to this song for the first time in 2007. My cousin came to visit me in Daytona Beach. He always had mixtape CDs from some pirate radio station in New York where he lived. I was working my way up the dope ladder and my boy called me telling me he had something special he wanted me to see. So I hop in the car and drive up to Soul City off of Nova. I heard this song and put it on repeat. Anyway, so I pull up to my boy's house and go in. He is smiling ear to ear. This is the only time I've ever seen this guy smile. So he sits me down in his kitchen and walks up to the fridge. He jumped up and opened the cabinet above it and snatched out a fucking brick! Like an entire brick. Homie had a whole bird with a stamp and everything. He told me he got it for $12.5k from a trap on Berkshire in Holly Hill. He broke me off a quarter and told me to give him the retail and keep the change. I was so excited to bake it up that I ran outside and just tossed it in the back of my convertible eclipse, the top was down. So I'm driving home, nervous as all hell. I get spooked so I reach in the back and throw some clothes and a bag over the 4. Then what do I see right as I'm about to turn onto Ridgewood? Blue and white lights. Oh shit, I'm going to jail. I pull over fully accepting the fact that I'm going into custody so I don't even care at that point. Anyway, cop rolls up and asks me what I'm doing in this neighborhood (I'm white). I tell him that I had left the Circus bar on Mason and dropped my buddy off because he had been drinking and I was on my way home to Port Orange. I give the cop license and registration and he doesn't walk back to his car. He looks at me dressed in a polo and white shorts. He says something I didn't understand into his radio and hands me back my papers. He tells me that this isn't a good neighborhood especially for white people at that time of night. He asks me how I'm getting home and I tell him that I just need to take Ridgewood south and that's it. He tells me to go ahead and take his warning about the neighborhood because there were reports of shots fired (no shit) recently. He let me go... So I book it home, shaking like a fiend because of the adrenaline rush. Get home, bust out the quarter, and look at it. It's so shiny. None of that dull baking soda, inositol ugliness. So I get out my scale and weigh it. 255g. I know this is good stuff but I want to see how good. So I bust out my purification kit and wash with acetone and dry it back up, weigh it. 252g! So it was ~99% straight from down south. That quarter turned into a half with cuts and made me famous in the neighborhood. I quickly became the plug and served most of Port Orange and New Smyrna Beach. Anyway, that was the start of a great summer/fall and a lot of money for both me and my boy. I bought a new car, paid for college, and bought some Bitcoin ($300 each lol!). I have been out of the game for a long time. Now I'm an engineer with a family and a house in the suburbs. I like to go back in my head sometimes, though. I did some wild shit and I'm surprised I'm not dead or in jail sometimes. I had some crazy fun times with you, J.R. I miss you, buddy. I hope you're ok.

RIP to Chad Chalmers! 😔🌹 First time I was introduced to this song, he played it for the crew in NC A&T. May you rest as well as you treated the crew.
