Moananuiākea | 2023 Year in Review

The Polynesian Voyaging Society recaps the first seven months of the Moananuiākea Voyage and celebrates the communities visited during 2023. From Yakutat, Alaska, to San Diego, California -- Mahalo, mahalo, mahalo! The generosity of spirit was ever present as people shared their homes, their food, their stories, and their sacred places. Hōkūleʻa's ʻohana has grown with every connection, and the significance of these relationships will be carried with her as she sails.
Mahalo nui to the hardworking crew documenters and media partners who captured every moment so that thousands more can share in these stories of our collective home.

This the legacy of Papa Mau Piailug together with the original Hokule'a crew in 1976. By their examples of determination, humility, love, and passion they have finally open a centuries old and dormant door to Pacific sailing ❤❤💪🏽💪🏽🌊🌊⛵⛵ Im so happy that it's still going strong.

That whale at the 2:36 minute mark likely swam from Hawai'i! The Hokule'a along with this Moananuiakea voyage is so significant in spreading Aloha worldwide, it generates much needed hope for many of us. Hokule'a is a symbol of the human capacity to change course and sail in a sustainable direction. MAHALO PVS!
