At face value, this song just sounds like Mobs struggle to make friends and be a good person but... It's more than that. Listening to the lyrics themselves makes it clear that this song... is about depression. It's a guy who has been being the nicest person he can be, doing everything that people say you should do to be a good person, but he still feels empty inside. He still feels like nothing he is doing is worth it, that none of the good he has done has resulted in anything good for him. He feels utterly alone despite everything he does. At the end of the song though, while nothing changes in terms of lyrics, the shift in tone for the background instruments is so drastic that it draws you back into listening to those lyrics, and it becomes clear that he knows he is depressed, he knows what he is doing makes him feel nothing, and he wants to know what he can do, what can he possibly do when everything he does feels so meaningless. Then on the final sentence of the song, he ponders the thought of living his life for himself rather than helping others. He wonders if striving for what he wants instead of hoping giving others what they want will help him will change this feeling he has that no one else is on his side, that the Universe isn't working for him. He's wrong though. Living his life for him won't change the fact that some people just do not care about others. It will only make it obsolete because he will finally be on his own side again.
