Hi I’m an ICU step down nurse & can give you a quick rundown of sepsis. It’s not a full explanation but hopefully you’ll get the jist. Pretty much some of the meds drs give to patients have a negative side effect of possible limb amputation due to poor circulation. The body does what it needs to do to keep us alive so together w/ the meds, it will pull blood from the outside to the core (periphery to the core). Sepsis is a systemic infection & the effects vary depending on when it’s caught but essentially it causes multi system organ failure & can lead to death. It’s likely that Ms Thomas became septic & required medications to keep her blood circulating. The medications work by pulling blood from your extremities (hands/arms/legs/feet) to your core (chest cavity, abdomen, trunk, etc) as that is where most of your vital organs lie. Depending on how long the patient is kept on these meds, called pressors, the extremities can lose circulation and, in short, have to be amputated. These meds are used TYPICALLY to prevent death. If the hospital staff failed to use proper sepsis protocols (nationwide criteria to alert drs/nurses of potential & severe sepsis), failed to assess extremities/limbs for complications related to pressers, or any # of other issues that would cause gross harm to Ms Thomas, the hospital would then be found at fault & subject to malpractice lawsuits. Just FYI, Sepsis is a very serious condition & can start with something as simple as urinary tract infection or dog bite.

Nah, that isn't true. "Anyone into a downward spiral?" Bullshit. Some people use every situation as an excuse to do dumb things. And it starts with people offering up excuses similar to your comment. How do you explain people in her situation or worse, who decides to be positive and live a productive life? Did they just miss the downward spiral? Did they just get lucky? Or did they decide to act accordingly and make something of their lives regardless of their circumstances. There are too many excuse makers out here.

Society, thugs, violence in our streets change people, especially black people, i do not underestimated the authorities vileness, they can do crimes easily and get away with it. You live in tough neighborhoods. What are your chances? Why were her legs and arm amputated? Septic? or was it deliberately to end her career? You are left without hope for Someone else wrongdoings, doctors do the unthinkable, so do courtrooms. Something fishy here, if they settle with her what would be the reason behind it all? A life can easily be taken without mercy, being charge of a crime doesn't necessary mean you did it but you are being charge, one sits in a courtroom and the defended can't speak to defend himself or herself.

So she basically took that wealth and turned it into street power. Buying her inventory and recruiting others. She was already a criminal and that money just magnified that. Depression likely played a part, but I’m sure she was fully aware of her actions and what was right and wrong. 15 years was light for taking a life.

Funny, in America we think 15 yrs for a life is a lot - and don’t get me wrong - I agree. Lives are priceless!!! However, in England and other developed countries around the world 15 yrs is standard for murder. They don’t have death row inmates dying on death row bc they have to wait decades to be fried. Here in America, we are conditioned to “lock everybody up!” type of mentality. It’s profitable. After a while, the lock up game becomes a dirty corrupt game of greed and the poorest amongst us will pay. That’s just it. Let that killer return to society and face the reality of their actions. Yes of course there is a possibility that person may be released into society only to kill again and torture or rob or rape…I get it. But we are the most complicated species on the planet. Remember we start wars for money and ego…some do get released and learn their lessons…keep hope alive.

I think you meant sepsis, and if so: Sepsis is basically a really bad infection that can start in any part of the body and spread to your blood. I had it 4x with my lupus. Each time, the source of the infection was different. However, the symptoms were always the same for me. Super high fever OVER 103, muscle pain, delirium from the fever, excessive drowsiness when my fever increases, and a super high blood pressure. It can be very fatal if you don't respond well to the antibiotics or start it too late. Almost lost my hand and forearm from a bad infection on my left arm. I'm not sure what her source was. But hopefully, that was simple enough to understand.

To piggyback off of what you said, it's a very serious blood infection. Blood is distributed throughout the body, so the infected blood is constantly circulating. Treatment consists of some of the most potent antibiotics in the world. They are so potent that in no time, they can shut down any or all organs, and that's what usually causes de**th rather quickly. This is why it is very important to find the infection quickly as to start treatment specifically designed to treat the area. It is very important to do your best to avoid infections because once your body becomes immune to septic antibiotics, there's nothing left to treat you with. I've developed sepsis twice, and since that time, I've worked very hard to avoid allowing an infection to linger. Please take care of yourself. 💙🙏🏾

Sepsis used to be called blood poisoning. Its an infection that spreads to your blood stream. The source can be a urinary infection, wound infection or even strep throat. Im thinking she got sepsis in the hospital possibly after a botched surgery or they caught it too late for her to sue and win against the ER docs and hospital in a malpractice suit. Its sad she couldnt turn her life around for good but anger and depression and just not caring after her devastating illness may have sent her down a dangerous violent road.

Nicu Nurse Jas checking in. If the body's immune system and bloodstream go into overdrive in response to an infection, it can cause excessive clotting in the blood vessels and leakage from the blood vessels. This can then lead to a reduced supply of oxygen to the body's organs and around the body. When this occurs, tissue starved of oxygen can start to die, causing gangrene. Gangrene most commonly affects fingers, toes, hands and feet (the body's extremities). Amputation is occasionally necessary in order to stop the further spread of gangrene and save the patient's life.

What causes sepsis? Infections can put you or your loved one at risk for sepsis. When germs get into a person’s body, they can cause an infection. If you don’t stop that infection, it can cause sepsis. Bacterial infections cause most cases of sepsis. Sepsis can also be a result of other infections, including viral infections, such as COVID-19 or influenza, or fungal infections. Most people who develop sepsis have at least one underlying medical condition, such as chronic lung disease or a weakened immune system. Nearly a quarter to a third of people with sepsis had a healthcare visit in the week before they were hospitalized.

One thing I notice about our community is that more times than not there is a lack of accountability for your actions. Always excuses as to why some people do the things they do...mental health...disability...etc. Just own the fact that some people are piss poor morally and when they are not held accountable for their behaviors/actions you see stuff like this. My condolences to the young man that lost his life...unnecessarily 😔

Through this action, Zekiya Knox ("Plaintiff") seeks recovery for alleged medical malpractice by a variety of medical providers involved in her care between September 2013 and May 2014. Plaintiff alleges these providers failed to properly and timely diagnose and treat her underlying condition, Crohn's disease, and that this failure led to the development of sepsis. Plaintiff further alleges various Defendants failed to properly treat her sepsis and that the collective errors led to Plaintiff's loss of three limbs. Plaintiff asserts a single claim for medical negligence against all Defendants, though the specifically alleged errors vary between Defendants. See ECF No. 88 (Second Amended Complaint).

@24pekanpie 5 ай бұрын
Instead [of receiving proper treatment for her Crohn's disease], Ms. Knox was left to continue to suffer from her condition, only to be returned to [Piedmont] on May 4, 2014. This time, she was ultimately worked up and got a CT. She had, and has had for months, untreated and, unknown to her, Crohn's disease. This condition was fully treatable if caught frankly anytime within a day or two of her presentation back to [Piedmont] on May 4. The condition in her lower right abdominal cavity had caused significant damage to her intestines and caused a life threatening infection. This infection is called sepsis, a body wide inflammatory reaction to the raging infection.

ER Nurse here.... so sepsis can attack everything/anything. It's super common to lose limbs when sepsis is bad. All sepsis is, is your blood gets infected by a severe infection somewhere in your body. When that infected blood is pushed through your body, it can cause those tissues to be infected and start dying. I didn't catch what her original injury was, but unless the docs just let her lay there, infected and super sick, then I dont understand how she even won a lawsuit by suing the hospital. Unless she was literally left to deal with an infection on her own, which I highly doubt since she was in the hospital, there is no way that the hospital could've known she would become septic. Surgeries/procedures always require consent that states "bleeding, infection, death, ect. could occur". If that was signed, and she was treated, then the hospital should be covered. It's sad the path she went down (losing limbs, crime, ect) but that doesn't excuse someone from murder.

Not always true. Patient’s come thru the ER sick as a dog and get sent home. I have a friend who this happened to. In the ER and sent home, came back 5 hrs later, died in the ER. Sepsis was the cause. Her case obviously was good enough for her to win the lawsuit. She needed some mental health therapy from the devastating result of having sepsis and it not being caught in time to avoid amputation.

Soo..there are a few ways for sepsis to develop however in this cases it seem there were wounds that were overlooked or not cleaned & dressed properly. These wound were infected and that bacterial infection eventually grew to the point where it enters the bloodstream...leading to amputation of infected areas. No gpt used.

NO: her issues existed long before this but we're probably unaddressed and masked by injury and then that money but I think she probably wanted to be the baddest as a woman especially being strapped and drawing down on that person and because she didn't get any help for her inner demon she is where she is and may that person who is never spoke about in this video rest in peace. Sepsis is when your body has a severe response to an infection. During sepsis, your immune system, which normally defends you from germs, starts to attack your body's tissues. This triggers inflammation that can lead to organ damage. It's also common for blood clots to form that lower blood flow to your internal organs, so they don’t get the nutrients and oxygen they need.
