I live in Houston and have several friends in the industry, as well as being a professional tech guy myself. The consensus of the people whose professional technical oil opinions I trust is that the Platinum is a better oil than Mobil one. They also all say that they're both so good that if you change your oil with regularity it won't matter for most people. From a standpoint of molecular consistency and wear protection, the Platinum wins on just about everything, but it comes down to "how good is good enough". Pennzoil has the engineering might and money of Shell to back it up, and nobody in the industry spends more on lubricant research and development than they do per what my technical oil business friends say - even Exxon Mobil which is a slightly larger corporation overall. Personally, my first choice has been the Platinum for the last few year after formerly using Mobil 1, but I don't hesitate to still buy some Mobil if it's on sale or has a rebate. They're both great oils, and I change every 6K anyway.

I have done a test with my vehicle, my SUV has a 2.0 ecoboost this is a turbo GDI engine and has installed a J&L catchcan. I used Amsoil signature series, Mobil1 full synthetic and Pennzoil platinum each change done @ 5k miles and I can tell you, the vehicle ran the same no difference or not noticeable difference between Amsoil and Mobil1 what surprised me the vehicle is more responsive and feels better running with Pennzoil platinum. (no ultra platinum, hard to find here) is quite shocking $26 Pennzoil runs better than $70 Amsoil, very low oil accumulation in the catchcan with all of them, about a 1/4 of an inch in 5k miles. I know many people with GDI engines look for this videos, this is my 2 cents.

I use Pennzoil Ultra in the Camaro, 2015. It now has 72k. Dual vacuum catch can on the dirty side and one on the clean side. I have no carbon build up and it a direct injection engine. Runs like the day it came home from the dealer, oil gets changed every 5k. But I also have a Toyota Matrix I bought new back in 2003. I been using the cheapest oil from Walmart. It has no carbon build up, doesn't burn a drop of oil or leaks. I get about 27 miles to the gallon and it now has 289k miles. So changing the oil at 5k seems to be the sweet spot.

@bleach_drink_me2 жыл бұрын
@@costantineyoussif6679 I wouldn't be concerned about the possibility of seals swelling with the oil. I have let new (no name) seals in it for long periods of time. No noticeable difference in the size or flex of the seals. I don't think modern high mileage oils use any additives that actually cause swelling. It's more of a "rubber conditioner" which helps them stay flexible. I actually used high mileage oils in a vehicle for a couple of years. I later tore the engine down, I can't say I noticed any significant swelling of any of the gaskets and the rear main and front seal were nearly as flexible as brand new. The valve cover gaskets were a little stiff, valve stem seals had no noticeable swelling compared to new. For what it's worth, the previous owner took it to the "quick lube" and let them up sale him to use the high mileage oil. No idea how long he used it for before I bought it but it came with a fresh fill of high mileage oil (max life)when I bought it. I could see using some stop leak additives being an issue but never tested them,so can't comment for sure. TLDR: have experience and tested modern high mileage oils for gasket swelling,no significant change noticed during a couple of years use and during several months of new seals sitting in the oil in a jar, Wouldn't recommend using stop leak additives but haven't tested myself. BTW if you don't have any leaks, maybe next OCI go back to normal oil? Just something to think of..do your own research on high mileage oils,pay attention to the date of info posted when you are researching.

Sorry, no. The top three "full" Synthetic motor oils are: Liqui Moly, Motul, and Amsoil in the correct viscosity for your vehicle. But really, it's whatever makes you happy as long as it is fully synthetic and meets the API/SAE specifications for your vehicle. SAE stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers (United States). An oil rated as SAE Oil (for example, SAE 5W30) denotes its viscosity. API stands for American Petroleum Institute. Engine oil with an API rating means that the lubricant meets the minimum performance standard accepted by auto manufacturers.

I've been using Mobil 1 Advanced Synthetic in all of my new and used vehicles for years. I've just always had good luck with it. I do notice it gets a bit dark pretty quickly, but i don't really lose much and I've known engineers/engine builders who've actually worked contracts with Manufacturers like Ford to stress test/LSPI/oil certifications etc and Mobil 1 has been their choice. Specifically for the Ecoboost platform (like my 2016 Focus ST). I actually recently ran Lucas break-in oil for my rebuilt motor (forged, big turbo) and it seems like a nice clear oil. I've been half curious about Lucas engine oil as a daily synthetic choice but have seen the proven tests of Mobil 1, so I likely wont stray at this point. Always interesting to see what people prefer since all brands claim to be superior. But time and time again i see Mobil 1 sit at or near the top in tests. Thanks for the video!

I have a feeling there isn't that many chemical esters in PUP or their additive package is inferior. Some guys like 540 Rat Blog shows 'data' that it is not nearly as strong as the Mobil 1 synthetics. At one point two years ago I did about 15,000 miles with pennzoil ultra, adding a quart of Pennzoil Platinum when it needed it. (Cant find PUP in quarts anywhere) I wasn't impressed by its oil consumption. Their marketing and public relations team only cry that it could be the oil cleaning up the motor and getting past seals. Either way, I imagine my motor is pretty darn clean. Many other peoples around the internet claim oil consumption issues as well. It could be their molecules are purer, more refined since they use the Gas-to-Liquid technology to formulate the base oil, however, to me I find that while it is interesting that they can make an oil that pure its useless in the way they describe the methodology because you can boil anything or condense anything in the refining process and improve purities no matter what your doing. They might be doing it more profitably, because of their natural gas resources in Qatar. Seems like they just brag about making money from thin air. I've done 18,000-20,000 on Castrol Edge Professional. I absolutely could feel after that many miles, the engine was not as responsive-and sounded slightly different-and so I changed it, and it was fine. Castrol is known for not boiling off as much as others, leading to adding less oil. So I like it for that reason. Im gonna try more oils for fun like Royal Purple HPS-it seems to have the qualities I want in an oil. Esters(synerlec) and their additive package-and a full synthetic base oil. We shall see. Mobil 1, I will try down the road later, but Im convinced its already pretty good-similar to Valvoline as well. Obviously, synthetics are good in general. If your noticing a change in sound or performance, I would go with your gut feeling.
