Thank for so much for these videos! My sweet grandma lives in an old mobile home with moisture damage underneath which has caused the floors to need replacing. She also has those old single pane windows which create the worst condensation and damage the paneling under the windows. She’s 69 and in remission from cancer so I’ve decided to tackle it. I’ve replaced the paneling in her living and dining room but never done floors.

The way the mobile homes are built & when redoing the floors you should always add blocking, especially on the sides Where the trusses meet the frame.. Not to mention if the floor bows it due to bad supports. So these 3 things go hand and hand when redoing it the right way. First level the floor takes a few cement blocks and a floor jack. Then block the floor to lock it in place and keep the trusses from bowing again.. after that it's super easy to lay the floor without going under the frame and the floor won't need to be leveled with special boards.. Typically blocking the edges and every 3ft into the trusses will keep everything from goin back down like you're describing. I'm not seeing any extra support for heavy traffic areas like the hallway or the doors.. The biggest issue I saw here was yall didn't add any support to the frame 😔that holds the roof or walls.. Keep in mind the frames rest on the flooring.. Basically those are sitting on burrow time now
@JamesMarriottano

Also I must say the sweating of the vents is a 20 roll of tape, that basically does the same thing ur doing but keeps it from sweating. At like 10% of the cost.. Same thing the use with residential or industrial grade pipes that sweat. Tape is made of a material that keeps the box and pipes from sweating intensively

It's a pain in the backside unless you're making some really good money or saving a lot of money by living in one you can pay off. Been there done that don't want to do it again. Get plenty of 2x4, screws, insulation and floor decking, I don't know why they don't put plywood in these things!
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair
@Drewsroofingandhomerepair 2 жыл бұрын
I like to use the Adventech that is the Best plywood in my mind or as far as I’m concerned. I have no idea why they used that old sawdust plywood to put in a mobile home. If you literally spill one cup of water and you don’t clean it up immediately in a week you can step your foot through that spot. To be honest they are doing better nowadays they do not use that type of flooring anymore.

Your videos are great! Im getting ready to redo my subfloors and replace my bathtubs. I've never done this before so these videos are perfect homework. Any advice? What depth do you set the skill saw at? What do you use for blocking? What are the best floors to use in bathrooms? This trailer came with carpet, which is nasty in a bathroom. I've got my supply list I'm compling. What am I missing? 54 inch mobile home tub with tub surround and right hand drain. Utopia 8 inch center set faucet plumbers putty screw fittings ptrap under drain. 23/32nd plywood r19 insulation (I'm in Maine, so I think I'll have to go thicker!) Wall saw Skill saw Vent tape

You should use Vantex flooring, not three-quarter inch plywood. It is a little bit more money but it will never go away. They have different brands of it. I’m not sure what they carry in Maine advent tech Vantex there’s different names. I’m not sure what years is like I said, but if you use it, you will never have to replace your floor again ever plywood. It could happen. If it gets wet down the road you’ll have to replace itVantex, you will not. Sounds like you have everything you need if you’re in Maine maybe you would consider our 30 in the attic but I think I 19 is fine for the floor. Thank you for watching and if there’s anything else I can help you with please let me know it sounds like you got it figured out. When you take up the floor if it’s put down with Staples and glue I have a video for that.

@@Drewsroofingandhomerepair Advantech will swell if it gets wet. In preparation for installing linoleum, I used thinset to fill all the gaps between the tongue and groove, and it sponged out. If getting wet one time causes it to swell, i'm not so sure that I believe it will outperform plywood. In either case, the key is to make sure nothing ever leaks!

Serious question… What was the cost of this job and … was the cost worth the result? I was thinking of simply cladding the existing floor with 3/4 ply though the advantech might be a viable option. My biggest problem is the underside is/was covered with a “tarred” cardboard like material.

Your husband can definitely do this. If it’s made of wood you can fix it. I have many Mobile Home Floor videos that I hope will help your husband. The reason why I make videos is for people like your husband. I’ve been working on mobile homes for years and years and years I’ve never found one that I couldn’t fix. And I found some in pretty bad shape kzbin.info/www/bejne/joHChmeZaZ5-iM0

I searched and found Drews videos, as it pertains to my project. I'm renovating(saving) a mobile home for my daughter (priced out of her apartment down in the city). YOU CAN DO THIS. Just look for the wet spots on the floor, SET YOUR SAW for the depth of the flooring (NO MORE) and start cutting. Once you see what is beneath, you gain confidence. Cut a little more and look around underneath. Once you open up the effects of the problem (the floor), you understand it and realize you can replace it. KEEP READING... Fixing the effects is step 1. Make sure to fix the problem/what caused it (step 2). Our problem... the exterior sheathing/siding... being a mobile home, it was laid up in 4x8, 10 or 12 ft sheets of siding. These sheets are joined together every FOUR (4) feet. That seam's caulk had deteriorated. Water ran down and behind the siding and onto the floor. AND THAT WAS THE PRIMARY CAUSE. SECOND PROBLEM... The mobile home's A/C unit's condensation line became plugged (or there was a leak in the A/C pan. Regardless, we replaced it (all of it) and made sure the A/C could condensate/leak (which is normal) BENEATH the floor. Hope this helps. You can do this. God bless you and your husband. You can do this.

You said you saw two whatever the depth is obviously of the floor nine times out of 10 23/32 or 3/4 of an inch. I use a regular Skil saw blade for cutting wood. I don’t do just one spot in the floor never will get the floors bad the whole thing comes out.

If I do a living room 12 x 14 13 x 14 something like that it’s generally about $1500 labor and material. I use the expensive material so you could get it a little bit cheaper if you used plywood and not the material that I use.

A jam saw. You can buy it at harbor freight. I think it is only 89 dollars. I have a couple of them. Within an eighth of an inch it is so amazing definitely worth using it saves you having to use the saws all to get everything else but the Skil saw and a saws all will do the same thing. Remember this under the outside walls when you cut the floors out you’re gonna have to put some framing back in there. In order to do that you’re gonna have to look underneath the wall and you will see there are staples nails screws and all kinds of things you will have to get out of the way in order to reframe the floor to except the new plywood 23/32 is what I use generally

By the end of the video it looks like all the flooring is running the full length of the mobile home. Just wanted to see if you could clarify this? Should the flooring run length of the mobile home and is there a reason to why? I lived in and rebuilt a old manufactured home. The area I live was and still is Mobil homes. Slowly they're disappearing. The old homes can't be moved. They have to be demolished where they're located. home movers won't touch them. Lot built homes are replacing the old manufacture homes. The material/labor cost just don't work putting into a old manufactured home. Just the kitchen cabinets will cost as much as that old home. Maybe if you have access to used reclaimed lumber and are retired with no day job, I could see doing this. I was fascinated that anyone would do this.

You can buy that saw at Home Depot for under $50. Excuse me Harbor freight for under $50. Some people are calling it a tow kick saw. But I Colladay flush cut saw. Go to Harbor freight near you show them a picture of it they’ll put one in your hand I love it works real well. We used to use a saws all until we found that tool. Actually a customer started doing his own floor and he bought that saw at Harbor freight. When he realized how hard it was he hired me. He gave me the song and said I never want to have to useless again. So we did his job using his saw and it worked out so great we bought another one. In our earlier videos we used to use a saws all which could be kind of dangerous because of pipes and wires they put underneath floors in mobile 🏠 I want to share with you my playlist of some of my Mobile Home Floor jobs we have done. kzbin.info/aero/PL8xp84iSvTA6oXgxQr0iXkWR2bOhrllSm
