That's when you tell your friend to cue-up said video and you will set your timer when it has played through to verify how long that repair will take HIM to perform. We learn by doing and similar to identifix, just because it may be a common cause, does not mean it is the same issue affecting your vehicle or the actual cause of the problem rather than just another symptom of an underlying issue. GREAT content, I really enjoy watching your electrical troubleshooting process and how you share your knowledge from past experiences. Thanks for sharing.

I have to agree it looks like a bad ECM, but I would load test all my powers and grounds to it first. I have see bad computer grounds cause 5V to go high to some weird voltage. I mostly work on GM, so I don't have a lot of Yota experience though.

Maybe there is a short to power on the wire from the ECU to the combination meter? I personally never trust a resistance check.
@TiosAutoDiagnostics2 жыл бұрын
Off camera I de-pinned it at the pcm and the voltage was the same
@rpruneau682 жыл бұрын
@@TiosAutoDiagnostics Rather than resistance check did you check for a voltage drop. 10v is an odd voltage, so if you find where you are dropping the voltage should lead you to the problem. If its before the PCM, after, or internal. This may help you determine if flow chart was correct in referencing a 5V signal or whether your signal going into PCM was artificially low and any signal reading beyond that may be corrupt. Just a little food for thought.

@@rpruneau68 I just de-pinned it and checked the output voltage from the pcm with the same result of 10 volts.

I’ve seen internal drivers put out 10V and only supposed to be 5V. Internal module failure-I’m guessing the resistor internal to Ecu which is supposed to regulate 5V only has spiked higher then it’s supposed to. Can be .1 volt higher then normal spec. up to whatever the alternator is putting out. Not an expert on internal control unit designs but seen enough to know that the module is the fault. Done enough Diags. In my lifetime but it’s what we good at. Tio, keep up the good fight Sir. I’m a foreman at a dealership and plan on going mobile-self employed because nothing beats not having a boss and working on your own schedule like yourself. Following in your footsteps-keep leading the way. Had a friend who repairs ECUs for a living and he confirmed something as simple as a resistor/driver would definitely cause that.

Diagrams and charts are from identifix. It’s a monthly paid service, but invaluable in this line of work. Thanks for watching amigo!

Does the Toyota throw a code admittedly (hard fault) after erasing? The only reason I ask is everything's working. It wouldn't be the first time the flow chart gave wrong information and its a intermittent fault. If its setting the code right away then your most likely on the right track because everything else looks good. I've came across a few of those Toyotas that acted up only at high speeds or when the tranny got hot. I can't remember if it was a 5v or 10v wave form. Also I would check connectors to make sure something isn't bleeding over. I had a 2018 ford one time that the dash leds would stay on. I found the blue tooth model had corrosion on the connector. The constant power was bleeding over on the corrosion causing the leds to light in dash. It wasn't enough to carry a test light (Incandescent) but enough to light leds. Its just a thought and you might of already checked that.

For me, it sets right away. The shop owner says it was off when he replaced both VSS sensors but came back during his test drive. Then he says he replaced the ABS and the light was out, so he gave it back to the customer. The flow chart was the only place in identifix that I found that voltage of 5 volts, the image of the pcm I used to illustrate there is a bias voltage didn’t show what the actual voltage is. Normally when all else fails, I can at least find it there. Off camera, I de-pinned the wire at the pcm to check the direct voltage from the pcm with the same results. I hate to say it but without having definitive proof that it’s supposed to be 5 volts, I feel like I’m firing the parts cannon by making the call.

@@TiosAutoDiagnostics yeah I can completely understand why you went with the module in that case. If its a hard fault, at this point it could only be 2 things the module or a voltage bleeding off to your wire. It would be cool to find a know good just to know but unfortunately its not always easy to get a known good. Great diag and I enjoy your content I just subscribed.
