A proper military would have some sort of self-destruct in place after X distance/time, you'd still have to worry about the micro fragments but it would be something. We are however talking about the people who thought lining up for a sail age line battle and slugging it out was a grand idea.

I guess they would have already warned civilian traffic to clear the area before such a fight. I suppose though if you were in the immediate area, your spacecraft would be in immediate danger to stray shots.

Its not based on Jutland at all. This is far more destructive and not inconclusive the same way Jutland was. It draws more heavily on the IJN concept of the "decisive battle", exemplified by Tsushima

it was that vital, ships ammo storage are directly under the turret, specially a battleship

Works that way for a lot of real life naval ships, not to the degree of wrecking the entire ship but for missile turrets and gun batteries you'd be taking a chunk out of the ship just from all of those explosives self destructing.

Classic GUNDAM loophole: "let's put in old tehnology versus the Mobile Suit, which runs on an infinite power supply and see how they fare." It's a heavy-handed one-sided way for the writer to say "it wins, because I said so."
@f45411 Жыл бұрын
this was during the early days of the one year war when the MS first saw action in war; the origin series better portrays the pros and cons of MS during this time period (before the federation completed the gundam) with that said 1. it's space, i'm honestly surprised there wasn't something outside fighters than could take advantage of 3D space, spaceships in gundam for the most part act as if they're on water and not a 3d plane with zero gravity 2. thrusters did have finite output and the zeon made dedicated maintenance vessels for refueling and restocking ammo 3. Char's commando build had thruster limiters removed which would make it harder for a normal person to use effectively and would put extensive strain if used improperly of course it's still a cool show about mechs being OP but considering the technology jump MS brought to the battle field; the closest IRL comparison would be how far germany pushed their war machines during WW2, especially in the war they had a huge technology leap over many of its neighboring countries and then much like the fate of zeon, the allies caught up and surpassed germany in technology and won through a number of decisive battles and sheer man power / supply drain
@UnlimitedFlyers Жыл бұрын
None of those explanations give much thought about how a pilot is supposed to breathe in space, or where do the MS stores enough propellant to zip around like they do; they may as well have put in giant magical fairies powered by a forsaken child instead: the end result is the same. Mecha shows are great, but heavy-handed wins are lame.
@GWRaynor Жыл бұрын
@@UnlimitedFlyers It's not as heavy-handed as you think. The entire point of the Battle of Loum is that the Federation fleets were baited into a trap and outmaneuvered. Admittedly, Igloo does a VERY poor job of portraying Loum. The Origin series has a much better portrayal of the battle, showing the actual preparations and strategy used by Zeon to completely blind-side the Federation. The mobile suits were a big deal, but they were only ever a part of the bigger picture. Origin does a pretty good job of outlining the actual fleet maneuvers that were the core of Zeon's victory.
@samus17 Жыл бұрын
@@UnlimitedFlyers The mobility of mobile suits is 100% determined by which show they are in. The original series had them move more like people, but they weren't fast. IGLOO has them zip around like hornets. 08th MS team and Stardust Memory has them lumber around like buildings, and really need to charge up their thruster packs. I suggest a different series than IGLOO if you want more realistic movement from mobile suits.

Is the Luom inspired by Battle of Pluto in Space Battleship Yamato?
@HakoVadim685519 күн бұрын
Not necessarily In SBY Garmillas had total victory over UN fleet, with only 1 flagship retreating and Yukikaze going out in a suicide attack, but luckily taking down with it another Garmillas warship. Battle of Loum, personally, reminds me of one particularly huge naval battle. Biggest one by many standards-Battle of Jutland, that took place during WW1. Very big scale, importance of moving deeper into enemies’s territory and a pretty inconclusive outcome. And also, Battle of Pluto had different goals in mind, unlike the one of Loum. Not going to spoil the whole tragedy.
