I think the reason why Dr. Lang need that key card to james Is that he just want those zombies trap Inside the facility with him. And by the time that James might realized that he want to put them all those all zombies In one place so that those zombies cannot go outside with him. I think i have a reason why dr.lang didnt go with james... He was probably in a very ill condition ( i mean just think about it, he stood on that counter talkin to james for the rest of that running he did and probably didnt move cause hes so sick) by any means he thought if he went with james like that in that condition he's in. he would need help running and eventually would end up slowing down james which they would both run out of time and the doors would finally shut then they would be trapped from what ever dangerous thing is in the base and would eventually be leaving the doc and james dead. But the doctor knew james was looking for something (which is his sister and daughter) so he thought it would be best for him to stay and let james make a run for it...... The poor guy shouldve lived and didnt deserve to die RIP Daniel Lang I hope this makes since for yall this took me so long to think about and type.

I think the zombie virus started inside the base cuz at 11:48 the machine is pointing towards the inside they tried but failed to contain it Dr Lang in the control room didn’t close the door to stop the spread cuz he don’t have enough clearance on his card and his colleague is outside holding the line. The thing Dr Lang said that cannot be let out could be mutated zombies that is extremely hard to kill he doesn’t want the mutated kind of zombie virus to spread so he sacrificed himself to help the remaining survivors. That is my explanation;) Edit:The mutated zombies can’t even be killed by the prototype because Dr Lang’s colleague have the prototype but still got killed so that means a few of the mutated zombies escaped.

Something that I will never understand is how in every zombie movie, the military is basically useless. This is a very well protected government facility in the middle of what is basically nowhere, with a lot of armoured military vehicles, and other military grade hardware. They had to have an armed guard complement of at least six hundred, based purely on the amount of vehicles, the tunnels themselves are natural choke points, where the horde would’ve come from one direction, and these bastards die from a few well placed shots to the chest, and only need one to the dome piece to drop right away. The tunnel is blocked by a massive door that is probably two feet of solid steel, which means unless it’s a scud missile or a nuclear weapon, nothing is busting its way in. By all rights, this facility should’ve held out for years, if not decades if they had enough food and water to sustain all personnel for an extended period of time. So, whomst the fuck screwed up?

The only reason that I can think of is when the doctor said "there are things down here that can't reach the surface" so maybe there are some super zombies that we just didn't see that killed everyone. But then again these soldiers also had advanced prototype weapons and armor so it's still not that believeable.

@@shotguntony4730 Nah, even if there were some super zombies, there were APCs and what looked like a few MBTs as well, and no super zombie is surviving a couple 20mm rounds to the chest, or a 120mm shell to the body. Besides, it seems like they were still locked down below, as we likely would’ve encountered them if that was the case. They never made it to the upper levels, otherwise we’d see a lot more carnage if they somehow managed to escape their cages.

to be honest there are multiple explanations. all are based on the fact that military didn't know of zombies at first and tried fighting them off using wrong tactics. 1.) this virus was a bioweapon that went out of hand. I even think that Fort Donbridge here is actually the ground zero of the outbreak, and military lost valuable time trying to find a cure. as Dr. Lang said, dorms fell first, then they started making their way to the access tunnel. this virus can transform with just a bite and half the time nobody notices it as an important thing. 2.) this actually came out as a random mutation of a virus and govt officials considered it as mass hysteria. so rather than killing them, they went for restraining them or sending them to hospital. which as you may assetain, is a very effective ground for the outbreak to grow. all of which are based on one single fact: military didn't know how to respond at first. they focused on using unsuppressed weaponry with center-of-mass hold, which doesn't do enough damage to a creature with only brain stem as weakness. they weren't aware of that headshots are the only shots that work. also the gunshots drew even more targets upon them, giving them a sizeable amount of targets to deal with.

@@Oscar-lb5wi i agree, dr lang sounded really sick and ill fainted, like he's been there trying to survive for quite long but never had the courage to seal the blast doors, i really prayed james could've saved him, but he told him that he might still make it out if he did what he always do.... *run* it touched my heart deeply hearing that, like he wanted James to make it out and stay alive after helping him accomplished what he could never do in the first place, he really sounded weak and frail, so i don't think dr lang could come along, but apart stay in the facility surviving only on power provided by electricity, that filter oxygen and carbon dioxide in and out, now that the doors are sealed permanently, I can't imagine what's going to happen to him, he runs of air? slowly rots in that suit and dies and turns into one of those things? I hope he survives and we get to see him in the future

It baffles me how in games and movies, the military is powerless against slow-walking zombies. I understand if it's a horde of fast runners like in Dawn of the Dead, 23 days/weeks later, or like that, but it's just walkers/slow movers? The military has enough firepower to clear a whole city full of infected. But I guess it's the "Idiot Plot", where to progress the story, the characters should be dumb as hell.
