Mobimar 18 Wind Landing Trial

The Bothnian Gulf has brackish water and its salinity is about 5 ‰. Therefore wave length is significantly shorter and frequency higher than in North Sea (salinity ca. 3.5%).
The previous night it had blown from NW 17-18 m/s (220 km open water from Sweden), and although the wind was calming down, the significant wave height Hs was still between 2 and 2,5 metres according to Bothnian Sea wave buoy owned by the Finnish Meteorological Institute©.
We had a new skipper, who, although experienced, had only few hours experience of the vessel. However, even the first docking of the vessel in these rather demanding conditions went remarkably well. The currents around the ice cone in these wave conditions are quite interesting.
After the gripping mode was activated, the propulsion was disengaged and we had peaceful meeting "with coffee and biscuits" in the crew quarters.
In spite of the waves of 45° ahead the compensation cylinders kept the boat steady without problem.
