The Box Threadripper has a major advantage in terms of PCI E lanes, so I’m not sure what you mean. This can “do” up to 64 lanes with the PLX chips, but Threadripper does 64 natively. And if you really need PCI E bandwidth, you can go EPYC and get 128 lanes on the high end parts.
@BL-yj2wp5 жыл бұрын

As much stuff as they crammed on that board some better SPS's shouldn't make that much a difference in build price. If Gygabite made motherboards for EPyc or even threadripper like this they would sell out immediately, and Intel W would lose completely its HEDT sales.....these motherboards are uniquely used for rendering on GPUs and render farms and they constitute the bulk of workstation sales.....there are hundreds of thousands of 3d content creators that work with Vray and other renderers that the more GPUs you have the better it is... Its been since EPYC and Threadripper Launched firt that I hav ebeen waiting a mother board like this for AMD, and in all honesty I would mount on it a very simple 8 core threadripper or EPYC cpu...so even the VRms make sense.....though today with 32 core threadripper you get that as an extra with the GOUS, as a 2990wx is just as fast as two GPUs.. So With Vray NEXt you could run threadripper 32 core and 7 GV100 or titan or 2080ti, or drop in a quadro 6000 and 6 Tesla V100.

Quad sli is not dead. I have quad 1080ti on x99 with all copper water blocks and 2-plx chips. I play over 100fps at 5k at all day. People just need to study how to make it work. Check Thirty IR channel. (Some people have already made 2080ti work in quad but that's too complicated for me)
@Teryces5 жыл бұрын
Just because you use it doesnt mean it isn't dead. Multi-GPU support is 100% dependent on how many consumer use it, thats thats nobody in 2019. People also don't "just need to study how to make it work", they have to spend literally double the money on GPUs. mGPU is dead because mGPU setups arent required to get the optimal perfomance anymore, in a time where single GPUs can do playable 1440p and 2160p.

why even care for x299 anymore, isnt the next gen Threadripper gonna woop its ass so hard, considering the IPC on x299 is worse than Z370/Z390 cpus. if one needs high core count with much IO/PCI-E, threadripper seems like the better choise atm.

Ryzen 3000 series Supports DDR4-4400+ on damn near all CPUs on high end daisy-chain topology boards. I have seen 4800mhz without issue on a Crosshair VIII Hero/Formula, 5000mhz on the X570 Aqua, and even 5166mhz on the X570 Godlike. The Crosshair VII Hero also can do high memory speeds. Supports DDR4-3800 with a 1:1 fabric clock. This is the ideal configuration for best performance. XMP works without tuning needed. Roughly half the power draw, similar or even superior single core performance to Skylake-X. Cheaper than comparable options. Intel created X86, AMD created X86-64. Neither is a pretender.
