Saludos.

This piece is the soundtrack to my wife leaving and our subsequent divorce. I played it while she set out her intentions and, just for a moment, I caught a tear in her eye. I still remember it dancing momentarily before melting down and into her cheek. I remember thinking that if this music couldn’t soften her to trying again then nothing could. As it transpired, nothing could. Every day I make a silent wish for your happiness.

I came, and I listened. My life is changed. I don't feel depression any more, stress, anxiety, anything. I forget my friends, my family, the world around me, my daily lifestyle, everything, and just.... listen. It feels like I am floating through a surreal piece of art. It feels no less real than reality itself, yet it feels no more real than Odysseus slaying sea monsters across the Western sea. This was Earth's answer to true beauty. And so, the world gave us Moby.

I cannot listen to it without crying anymore. It just wakes up the memories, the pictures, the emotions. I am devastated. He gave me so much... I am so thankful to God for giving me this friend. Unconditional love of his I will never forget. I am so happy for that, but this sadness also... it won't go away.

In 2016, my Mum got diagnosed with Cancer. We all kind of knew it'd be terminal, and it was. She died in 2017. The last 3 months or so, I was listening to this song a lot, as I knew she was going to die fairly soon and I wanted this song to be my association for that memory (I've done that a lot through the years, when I find a song that I'm listening to a lot, and something happens, I try not to listen to that song 'on normal rotation' anymore and only keep it for special moments when I want to be reminded of that time.) My life is very different now, and so it doesn't quite take me back to that time as strongly as it used to. I've just kind of moved on from that person I was back then. But it's still a powerful experience. The trick to coping with the death of the parent you're closest to... Is you just keep on living. Keep on experiencing things. Try to keep on growing as a person. The pain doesn't get any smaller, but if you can facilitate your growth as a person, then you'll 'outgrow' the reach of the pain. The pain will always be there, but it'll just be a lot smaller now, in comparison, with who you've grown into. The worst thing you can do is stop living and stop experiencing things, because then you'll never grow and the pain will always fill you up so much. So... Shout out to my people in the Dead Mothers Club. If you can survive that, you can survive anything.

Everybody who hasn’t turned 18 yet should promise to play this on their 18th birthday because, in a way, it represents early life moving into adulthood, and all the wonderful possibilities being an adult offers... but then, at the end, it reminds us that even though we’re grown up, we’re all still children at heart.

@kiks3993 жыл бұрын
I think it's called "18" because of the mellancholy and sense of nostalgia you feel once you realize it's time to leave the past and life as you knew behind. When you're 18 it's not going to be the last time you feel that way, but it's definitely a period when that feeling of pressure begins

This is a lovely piece -- as a pianist who uses an electronic keyboard at church, I find this very compelling, and wish I had the music (I'm "note-bound"), as I would love to play it as a prelude.
@trevorjameson32133 жыл бұрын
Here are the chords, this is a very easy song to play: Begin chord sets: 1. (C, C5, G, Em, D, C) 2. (C, Bm, G, Em, D, C) 3. (Repeat No. 2 until end of song). Left hand plays bass triad of each chord (except C5 is only two notes). All triad chords begin with the root note for each chord. Right hand plays treble arpeggios for each chord. Play around with it. This is a beautiful chord progression. You don't need sheet music for this. Enjoy!
