lol why do they start bouncing straight up and down? that doesn't make any sense, i wonder why it simulated that way.
@spu00trb4 ай бұрын
I think that in order to make the simulation look more realistic and cut down on run time Moby has used a rigid ball simulation, but changed physics so that momentum in the x/y plane (floor plane) is not conserved during motion. So any ball movement in the X/Y plane will stop unless it is due to constant pressure from another ball striking it due to gravity. This makes the balls still bounce nicely for a bit, but likely prevents them becoming super agitated in the 'ball pile' because momentum and kinetic energy there is always being artificially suppressed. He likely could have achieved a bit of a more natural looking effect if his artificial momentum dampening field only turned on when other balls were close by, or near to his ceilings. Then the balls wouldn't have turned into super critical bouncy versions of themselves (like in the beans simulations) but the few rogue balls you can see away from the main ball pile would maintain a more realistic bounce path. I'm guessing he didn't damp in the z plane instead, even though it would look more natural, because the amount of damping required is pretty high and he'd risk balls just stopping in the air and slowly drifting to the ground, or just not appearing bouncy. He probably could have achieved best results with a rotating 'damping vector' in 3D space so that no single dimension was overly affected, but it still might have fallen over due to the sheer amount of energy being added to the system.

Please could you see how close you can get to C4D4U soft-body simulations? They are amazing, and I'm interested to see how good Blender can be. Thanks

Dynamic paint for the balls hitting the water? I would rather father a child, raise them to about 7 years old and then pay them $10 to clean up all those balls, than clean them up myself.
