Patriots desperately need a pass rusher, and Carter might be the best player in the entire draft. People are talking about the Titans taking him first overall. The issue with O-line is that their isn't a true stud tackle worth taking at the number 4 pick. And the best wide receiver may or may not be worth that pick as well. But Carter is one of the few elite talents in this draft.
@wesmckenna828721 күн бұрын
Depending on his knee health, I believe Vrable would want to trade back and take LT Simmons. The edge position is the deepest in the draft, doesn’t make sense to use your top pick to take one per say. While I like Carter, I think you could utilize assets more effectively.

I think we need to stop idolizing this “big, contested catch, X” because they rarely ever produce in the pros unless paired with an elite separator. Getting McMillan, or Tee Higgins, or whoever you want that fits that mold doesn’t help the Patriots offense in anyway. Another slow WR that can’t create any separation doesn’t open up our other WRs. The idea was to pair Higgins with Travis Hunter and now you have two guys who complement each other. That’s extremely unlikely to happen, and I still think they should look to add Higgins, but if they don’t get him (which is likely considering he’s prominent on taking a pay cut to stay in Cinci) the Patriots just need to move on with what they have unfortunately. If they took AD Mitchell last year, they wouldn’t even be talking about needing an X WR, but they viewed Thornton as a starter. With Maye, the Patriots should be targeting a deep threat separator like Jordan Addison, AD Mitchell (who was supposed to replace Alec Pierce before he popped off), BTJ, one of those types. I also hate the Ladd stuff because Ladd was never going to be a Patriot. You don’t replace your best offensive weapon when you have almost every other position to fill, end of story. To expand on the Higgins thing, I would rather take a proven contested catch guy then pick another bust (N’keal Harry, Ja’Lynn Polk, Kelvin Benjamin, Kevin White, the list is literally endless of these guys)
@PatriotsDrive21 күн бұрын
DK, AJ Brown, Tee Higgins, Drake London, Nico Collins, Mike Evans, Michael Pittman etc all are big X WR. IF you can find one they are game changers imo that are hard to matchup against. They will never be ELITE separators at that size which is why you have to surround them with other good route runners. I believe if you find a better outside option it makes it easier for Pop, Boutte and Polk to be more valuable.
@CP-vd4me21 күн бұрын
@ what I am getting at is most of those names are not the same as the players like McMillan or Jayden Higgins. DK, AJ Brown, Nico Collins, Mike Evans are elite downfield separators. Drake London, George Pickens and Tee Higgins (you can throw Mike Williams in there too if you want) don’t have elite speed. I also am the biggest hater of Drake London because he’s a worse version of what Kyle Pitts should be, and if the Falcons took the elite separators like Garrett Wilson or Chris Olave, they would’ve been miles better as a team. They need an outside option, but grouping guys like DK and AJ Brown with George Pickens, and Drake London is not correct. Two totally different skill sets. We need a DK, not a Drake London. If we had a fast Z, then a Drake London and George Pickens is more valuable, but for one of the slowest WR groups in the NFL, the last thing we need is another slow WR. There’s a reason why these contested catch guys fail more than any other type, it’s because they fully rely on being more athletic than the corner, and it’s a lot easier to do in college than the pros. Corners are also getting a lot bigger than they used to be
@PatriotsDrive20 күн бұрын
@@CP-vd4me Drake London had almost 200 more yards then Wilson this year. I believe Tmac has the ability to be like DK, AJ and Nico. He is so athletic for his size and can move so well he will have no problem with it imo. Higgins I can see, he wasnt great at YAC and inst the most dynamic but TMac is ELITE imo
@CP-vd4me20 күн бұрын
@ this was Londons first year over 1,000 yards. Garrett Wilson has done that every year with MUCH worse QB play. They’re not even in the same tier of WR. And I just don’t see it with McMillan. I think he would be elite on the Cowboys to be paired with Ceedee Lamb, but that’s really the only spot I can see where he would be a difference maker. Like compared to last years WRs, he’s in a tier lower than Odunze, BTJ, and AD Mitchell for most people including myself. I value separators much more because they excel in the pros. It’s why there’s a lot of slot guys that are late round picks, because speed and separation translates, being more athletic than others doesn’t. It’s why I have Hunter and Burden above McMillan. McMillan just isn’t worth a top 8 pick imo because you can get a guy with nearly an identical skillset in the third round EASILY. If Carter or Hunter are there, that’s pretty much a lock, but if not, trade down a few spots, if you can, and take Campbell or Banks. I’m not in love with this tackle class either, but if you miss out on the 2/4 blue chip players in this draft (the others being Mason Graham and Will Johnson) that are in a position of need, just take the best available linemen
@PatriotsDrive20 күн бұрын
