Mike wanted to Thankyou again.. couple weeks back had sent you a question about oil line routing and pressure build up in my oil tank after a full rebuild on a evo...Well you steered me in the right direction...S+S pump was a universal style I had put two supplies from pump...(small print in directions )...also swapped lines at filter assembly. All is good now bike is running awesome no oil issues.. Thanks again for your time.... Picked up another project 84 evo softail fiqure she will look good when done sitting next to my 84 shovel.....Good luck with your project will be watching !!!

Great! Look under that '84 Softail. When they first came out, I never saw one with its fifth bolt in the trans case. It bolts through the tab on the frame and into the bottom of the case. You need to remove the right shock to install it. Have fun!

there was a trend in bike building some years ago to use and not over refinish old parts, i think this was following the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic. As fashions go in and out this style seems to have gone in the west, although stuck with me. nice to see Pacific Mike uses his own blend 'of refinished and new because that's the way i always do it' approach. Can't wait to see this Big Flatty build progress. Hey Mike, as we know all you KZbin maestro's are super rich so maybe build the 80" as a giveaway raffle bike ? ;)

I love my two ironhead’s but I hope to build an old shovel one day. I have a few parts and an old AEE frame but I still need to find an old engine block. I tell you, I’m not a big fan of technology but I’m sure glad that you are kind enough to show others how to work on our scoots.

Sounds great. When Tom McMullen was making that stuff (AEE), back in the sixties, the most common motors were Generator Shovels, Pan/Shovels, Panheads, and Cast Iron Sportsters. On my 1958 Sportster, which I built in 1969, I had AEE's first pair of six bend pullback bars. I bought them at their shop, where they were made, in Buena Park.

Pacific Mike that’s awesome, I have a Durfee girder 8 over also that came with the frame. I traded for a few other things like a hunt magneto, and I have two generators that I rebuilt. I really love my bikes and old machinery in general lol. I feel honored that someone with all your life experience takes the time to show others how to keep our machines running right and also that you take time to reply even though you have plenty of other things to do. Howdy, Thanks for sharing your info, I do pick-up things from you here and there. Like the way you installed the wheel after installing the brake drum. I have owned and rebuilt many harleys going all the way back to 1969, pans, shovels, on and on typical old guy war story stuff . But as many times as I have pulled rear wheels off hogs I have never used the lug bolts to separate the wheel from the brake drum. For the past 50 years I have always left the drum attached to the wheel unless I had a reason to remove the drum. But from now on I will consider removing the lug bolts and and separating it as it was designed to be done. I do know that the allen wrench "hex wrench" is a hard to find 7/16 inch. And real hard to find 3/8" drive 7/16" hex wrench. I do finally have one that I treasure. I'm about to pull the rear wheel off my 52 pan and a couple shovels I have. Thanks for saving me a bunch of un-necessary work, don't know why I've always done it the hard way.

Masking, debur and grind and on a stretch form. I really enjoyed it and did a good job. I only mention it in going down memory lane. Sorry. Haha. Plus I was wondering if you take Parts Donations? Because I have a good friends'(who passed) old sissy bar from his 74' shovel. Rigid frame. Thank You. That's a beautiful thought. I rarely use sissy bars. You know, the first sissy bars were actually "grab bars" for pulling out a bike when it got stuck while "cow trailing." In fact a lot of them were made from Indian Bumpers.

It is called baking krylon, rustoleum etc at 150-200 degrees for about a half an hour to an hour.

Yes, that works well. But, just about any cheapo spray can paint and plenty of heat will do it.
