Hope I’m it too late, watch the first adaptation first. Yes it’s slower and doesn’t have as much packed in, but it gives a more in-depth story and focuses on characters so you care more about them. In Brotherhood for example, we see Trisha Elric for all of 20 seconds before we get a very blunt “and now mom’s dead” like most Shonen Protagonists. In the original we get a whole episode dedicated to her and the boy’s lives before her death, and even a scene where Winry finds out her parents died in the war and it makes them fear for their mother’s life... it’s nice to see them realize and appreciate her before it’s too late. Then seeing what, 7yr old Ed? With tired, dark, sunken eyes as he watched his mother die before him, the grave they just BURIED in flowers, it’s just the most heart wrenchingly sweet and sad thing in this world. In Brotherhood the shine doesn’t even fade from his eyes, let alone any of the amazing animation we see as they dilate and realize in the original. Plus, you get a lot more time with Maes and you get to see him out in the field and in that snazzy purple outfit. Most characters in Brotherhood don’t have much backstory, or have really rushed backstory because it assumes you’ve already seen the first or read the Manga. All the most important things like major deaths are handled in single episodes and do not get the time, amazing music, or lighting direction they deserve. A lot of characters in the “filler” episodes are brought back and given bigger roles in Brotherhood, (like Yoki) but their “filler” episodes that give them a proper introduction, set up the world more, and show us more of the main character’s personalities through putting them in different situations, is completely cut out. The music honestly is better(note “Brat’ja” the Elric’s theme, look up the English version sung by Ed’s VA), lighting direction too! And don’t get me started on expression. The original adaptation is far from scared of putting aside its glossy sheen and polished animation and making everything look dirty, and real, and horrifying. Not to downplay Brotherhood though, DEFINITELY watch it after the first! You might need a different ending after the first just to sleep at night, and besides, so many great characters are only in Brotherhood! General Armstrong, Ling, Xaio-Mei, Etc... and it does a wonderful job at hyping, giving you the most satisfying fights and conclusions ever, and giving you a real sense of how big the world is! Sorry for the long comment, I can’t help myself. - Sincerely, an Otaku

this is probably one of the most beautiful amvs i’ve ever seen. i remember seeing it when it was first posted and not knowing anything about the show! it stayed in my head tho, and after finally watching fma:b i immediately thought of it. it was then that i realized you had privatized/unlisted all of your videos. that was over 2 months ago and i’ve just accidentally found this video on someone’s playlist. now that i’ve watched the show, watching this masterpiece is twice as enjoyable. also - i hope you’re doing well. i understand and support your decision - it’s always good to take a break. :)
