Great Lecture, Thank you for offering that. I've watched stereographic projection in another lecutre (selected topics in mathematical physics) but the treatment was very fast. The introduction here is slow and understandable. Thanks!

Great course, thanks for this. I just have one question about the coordinate of the point of intersection with sphere. The lecture shows that these are t(0,0,1)+(1-t)(x,y,0). I know that this is calculated from the parametric line equation passing through the sphere. But when I try to find this result, I get stuck. Can you please explain how you found those coordinate. Many thanks.

+The IT Trainer SAP It's pretty simple, actually: at t=0, (1-t)=1, so you're at (x, y, 0) at t=1, (1-t)=0, so you're at (0, 0, 1) I would guess that the line works this way "by definition", so there's not really a way to derive it. ;-)

You can think of this equation as giving a point which divides the line from the point to the North Pole internally the in ratio t : 1. Then you can always select t such that this point lies on the unit circle

thanks sir! i have a doubt, then how to represent a complex number inside the unit circle?? because it doesn't intersect the sphere
@armyveteran30444 жыл бұрын
it is represented using the southern hemisphere, when the st. line passing through north plane and XY plane is extended to meet the sphere in southern hemisphere.

If you think an IIT professor can complicate things for you, maybe you can not learn from anywhere. He has been appointed for giving this lecture for a reason bro and you need to respect that.
