Sir a little confusion in shear strain rate as u find the final result is (dv/dx + du/dy) in xy plane. But in R. K Bansal & also in Cengel book of Fluid mechanics the Shear strain rate is 1/2(dv/dx +du/dy).. Sir i have confused.. What is the true result..prof. S. K som also find the similar resut which u find.. Plz help i am waiting for your response..

One is tensorial strain rate (in which there is 1/2), and the other one is termed as engineering shear strain rate ...they both convey the same thing..Similar concepts are in solid mechanics as well...

follow no one you derive it ...automatically dv/dx +du/dy comes so it is the shear strain rate/ rate of deformation

Since it is not solid mechanics, even for rotation, as the angles rotated by the fluid element along x and y axes are not the same so 90 degrees, is not guaranteed, to be included in deformation?

I think professor sk som is better from conceptual point of view.
